[Also in Division A5] A mattress 3 for use as a stretcher, has handles 4, a rigid support sheet 2 secured to its lower side and looped members 5 for receiving stretcher poles (not shown) The mattress may be made of foamed plastics. The support sheet which may be made of polypropylene, is secured to the mattress by a layer 1 of fabric, e.g. linen, which is secured to the longitudinal edges of the mattress or forms one side of a mattress cover. For X-ray purposes, film cassettes may be disposed in a head-rest 6 and a central longitudinal channel (7) at the foot of the mattress. The mattress may have a removable plastics casing.
