Abstract
1,047,901. Coin freed apparatus. AUTOMATIC CANTEEN CO. OF AMERICA. Jan. 11, 1965 [Feb. 27, 1964], No. 1163/65. Heading G4V. Coins inserted into a coin controlled or registering machine pass through a known tester and sorter, and pass into slots 38 (nickels), 40 (dimes), 42 (quarters), or 46 (halves), where they rest upon a corresponding step 78, 76, 74, or 73 of one end of a lever 32, Fig. 6. The presence of a coin interrupts a light beam from lamp 58 through wall apertures 54 to photo-cell 64, which energizes a solenoid so that lever 32 pivots downwardly and a rack 88 on the lever engages teeth on a credit wheel (not shown). Also, a timer motor is energized, so that a camoperated switch passes pulses, each of which energizes a solenoid to step up the credit wheel one tooth, and thus move rack 88 and lever 32 one tooth to the left. Pulses are emitted, and counted, until the rack has moved sufficiently to withdraw step 78, 76, 74, or 73 from the coin, which then drops to a collector, and the light beam is restored. Thus, one pulse is needed to drop a nickel, two for a dime, five for a quarter, and ten for a half. The lever 32 then pivots upwardly to disengage the rack and is returned to the right by a spring ready for the next coin. The credit wheel rotates a multi-way switch arm, so that on selection of a commodity, an electrical circuit is completed when the credit matches the price. This circuit energizes a second timer motor, driving a cam-operated switch energizing a solenoid to step the credit wheel down to zero and effects the sale.
