A container for protecting articles, e.g. bottles, comprises two identical closed hollow bodies 1, formed from impact resistant thermoplastic by blow moulding, and having recesses 2, which, when the bodies are placed together, form cavities in which the bottles are pneumatically cushioned. The bodies are held together by the engagement of buttons 3 in recesses 4 on the bodies, being also provided with recesses 5 forming hand holes. The container may comprise more than two hollow bodies, which may be filled with a compressed gas. The bodies may be provided with interengaging peripheral rims and grooves, or held together by a ribbon or cord.
