Abstract

1,055,848. Stereophonic radio receivers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 22, 1965 [April 25, 1964], No. 16994/65. Heading H4L. In a receiver for stereophonic radio signals, providing automatic switching from stereophonic to monophonic reception and an indication thereof, the pilot signal of half the subcarrier frequency is selected by a filter 16 from the output of the conventional frequency discriminator 6, 7, and supplied via transistor 17, full-wave rectifier frequency-doubler 21, 22, transistor 24 and transformer 25, 26, as a switching signal to diagonal points of a bridge circuit de-multiplexer 46. The composite signal from the frequency-discriminator is supplied via a filter 27 to the centre-tap of transformer secondary 26 and the separated A and B signals are derived via resistors 36, 36<SP>1</SP> respectively connected to the remaining diagonal points of the bridge circuit 46. Each arm of the bridge circuit consists of a diode and resistor connected in series, and to improve the reproduction of monaural signals the diodes are provided with a forward bias via adjustable resistors 54, 55. A meter 45 gives an indication of stereophonic reception. The A and B signals are amplified by similar amplifiers 41, 42, resistor 49 providing an adjustment to minimize crosstalk. The output circuits 50, 51 provide the usual de-emphasis.
