A container, e.g. a metal bottle, has a member 3, for protecting liquid contents of the container sensitive to air, the member 3 being freely movable on the surface of the liquid in the container. The member may be of metal, and may be flexible, enabling it to be inserted through the container neck; or it may be formed of separate halves of cork in a casing of aluminium, Figs. 7-10 (not shown), the casing being foldable. The container may have a separate base enabling the member to be inserted without deformation before the base is applied, Figs. 4-6 (not shown).
