Abstract

A liquid reagent is applied to at least a selected component of a particulate material prior to flotation thereof by contacting an air suspension of the reagent with an air suspension of the material. The method is particularly applicable to the addition of collectors and other conditioning agents to ores. The rate of supply of the reagent may be controlled so that (a) it is applied to a selected component of the material only as in the application of tall oil to manium ore, or (b) it is applied to all components of the material as in the application of a xanthate to sulphide ores, or (c) the application of the reagent to the material proceeds only to a predetermined extent. The method may also be used for the application of a sulphidizing agent, e.g. sodium polysulphide, to badly sulphidized ores. As described, the reagent is fed through fog nozzles into the air circuit of the dry-crushing and grinding plant of Specification 867,228. Specifications 632,532 and 696,137 also are referred to.
