Abstract
The object of the invention is a method for determining the volume of a pulp wood or timber stack (2). In the first step of the method, a pulp wood or timber stack (2) is taken to a measurement station (1) comprising measuring instruments. The method comprises the following steps, in which: a) both ends of pulp wood or timber logs (3) of a pulp wood or timber stack (2) taken to the measurement station (1) are illuminated with lighting devices (4a, 5a), b), the solid volume of the pulp wood or timber stack (2) is determined with a measuring module comprising measuring instruments (4b, 4c; 5b, 5c), the measuring module comprising: imaging devices (4c; 5c) arranged in connection with each end of the pulp wood or timber stack (2) for determining the diameter of each end (3a, 3b) of individual pulp wood or timber logs (3); and distance measuring means (4b; 5b) arranged in connection with each end of the pulp wood or timber stack (2) for determining the lengths of individual pulp wood or timber logs (3) of a pulp wood or timber stack (2) and the proportion of empty space (3c) between them. The solid volume of the pulp wood or timber stack (2) is calculated on the basis of the information determined with the measuring instruments (4b, 4c;5b, 5c).
