Abstract

There is provided a method , and a corresponding system and computer program product, for predicting the onset of farrowing in a gilt or sow, the method comprising: receiving, from a temperature measurement arrangement, a first temperature value indicative of the auricular surface temperature of a first ear of the gilt or sow; receiving, from the temperature measurement arrangement, a second temperature value indicative of the auricular surface temperature of a second ear of the gilt or sow; generating, by a processing unit, a current set of one or more temperature related parameters, wherein each of said one or more temperature related parameters is based on the first and the second temperature values; and predicting, by the processing unit, whether there is an onset of farrowing in the gilt or sow, based on one or more temperature related parameters of the generated set, by: checking, for each of the at least one temperature related parameter comprised in, if the temperature related parameter fulfills at least one criterion; and determining that there is an onset of farrowing if the at least one criterion is fulfilled.
