Abstract

A hydraulic damping appliance comprising:- a piston (9) received in a fluid-filled space (3) of a cylinder housing, wherein chambers (10, 11) on opposite sides of the piston are connected to each other via flow channels (24) in the piston;- a piston rod (12); and- a valve device with a valve member (31) capable of assuming a closed position, in which said flow channels are closed by the valve member, and an open position, in which said flow channels are open.The valve member is moveable from the closed position to the open position under the effect of a spring force from a spring member (32) and configured:- to assume the closed position, against the action of said spring force, when the piston is moved at high speed, and- to remain in the open position, under the effect of said spring force, when the piston is moved at low speed.
