Abstract

The method involves storing fuel in an inlet line (5) of an internal combustion engine (1). Overlapping of valve strokes between an inlet valve (10) and an exhaust valve (20) of a cylinder (15) is controlled so that, during an intake stroke, the inlet and exhaust valves are open and the stored fuel arrives in an exhaust gas pipe (25) of the engine for being burnt with the mass of scavenging air arriving in the pipe (25).
