Abstract
The invention relates to an apparatus for an internal combustion engine, which has at least one inlet valve and at least one exhaust valve (10) for regulating the connection between the combustion chamber in the cylinder and an inlet system and an exhaust system respectively. A rotary camshaft (18) having a cam curve (22) is arranged to interact with a first and a second follower member (17 and 20), which are mounted on a pivotable rocker arm (13) for changing between two different operating methods. The second follower member (20) can be switched between two positions, wherein in one position it is actuated by a first lobe portion on the cam curve, whereas, in the second position, it is not actuated by said first lobe portion. The cam curve (22) is provided with a further, second lobe portion, the function of which is to actuate the rocker arm purely via the first follower member during the rotation of the camshaft. The rocker arm is herein instantaneously actuated by the second lobe portion via the first follower member and, at the same time, by the first lobe portion via the second follower member, once the latter is activated.
