Abstract

A single protective layer (400) is used to prevent the wires (140) leading to an external device from coming into galvanic contact with each other, protect these wires against the elements, protect the integrated circuit (110) from electrostatic discharge and protect the integrated circuit from mechanical wear. A device for detecting fingerprint information comprises an integrated circuit (110), a fingerprint information sensor surface (130), a support (120) for the integrated circuit and a number of wires (140) connecting the integrated circuit to an external device. A means is provided for preventing the wires from coming into galvanic contact with each other, protecting the wires against the elements, protecting the integrated circuit from electrostatic discharge and protecting the integrated circuit from mechanical wear caused by contact. This protection means is provided by a single device, comprising a protective layer of fixing material covering the wires and the entire sensor surface.
