Abstract
A percussion-type torque pulse is created in the drill tool (4) and transmitted to the drill bit (5). The effect of this pulse on the drill bit is coordinated so that this effect occurs after a pre-determined time delay following the length strike on the drill bit when at least one of the drill bit working parts is in the rock as a result of pressure pulses. This causes the drill bit to rotate in a percussion-type manner, so that rock is removed by shear forces. Independent claims are also included for (a) the rock drilling system used in this method, including a means for dividing the prim. pressure pulse in the drill tool into two components, a means for directing a percussion-type torque pulse to the drill bit, and a means for directing the percussion-type torque pulse to the drill bit after a pre-determined time delay following the pressure pulse, (b) the drill tool for this system, which has an anisotropic section (7) for dividing the prim. pressure pulse into two componets, namely a sec. pressure pulse and a torque pulse, this section being located a pre-determined distance (LGEN) from the drill bit face, and where the torque force reaches this face after the sec. percussion pulse with a delay which is proportional to this distance, and (c) the rock drill (1) for this system.
