Abstract

A derive and a method for measuring the flow of a fluid flowing in a channel. The device comprises a member (2) for generating essentially plane, acoustic waves both upstream and downstream of the flowing fluid, a first (3) and a second (4) member for detecting the acoustic waves, and a calculation system. The first detecting member (3) is arranged upstream and at a distance from the wave generating member (2) and the second detecting member (4) is arranged downstream and at a distance from the wave generating member (2). The calculation system comprises means (8) for estimating the time difference between when the acoustic waves are detected by the first and the second detecting member, and means (9) for calculating the velocity of the fluid in accordance with the time difference.
