Abstract

The device for measuring and recording standard deviations in travel edges of a railway rail uses a reference system between first and second reciprocally movable transmitter and receiver units (1,6). One of the units incorporates a source (4) for emitting an optically coherent radiation bunch, such as a laser beam (5). The other unit incorporates a position-monitoring receiving unit for continuous monitoring of the focussing point or position of the optical radiation bunch on a measurement surface in the receiving unit and converting the measurement data to electrical signals. A component continuously measures and records the mutual distance or position of the first and second units relatively to a given reference point and a further unit stores information containing measurement data. The position-monitoring receiving component comprises a charged coupled device camera (19) and between it and the radiation source is a Fresnel lens (20) for focussing the beam on the camera.
