The disadvantage of the closest analogue is the need to have technological equipment providing the ability to fill two portions of gunpowder into the sleeve and insert a diaphragm with an opening between them to separate the powder charge into two parts.
The objective is to simplify the design of the cartridge and the technology of its manufacture without reducing the flight speed of a missile projectile (shot or bullet)
The problem is solved in that the cartridge for smoothbore guns contains a sleeve, a primer, propellant, wad and missile element. The propellant charge consists of quick-burning and slow-burning gunpowders not mixed together, moreover, said gunpowder is in direct contact with each other.
For example, Sokol gunpowder was used as quick-burning gunpowder, Sunar 42 gunpowder was used as slow-burning gunpowder, Vectan D 20 gunpowder was used as quick-burning gunpowder, and Vectan A6SP gunpowder was used as slow-burning gunpowder.
Thus, the essence of the claimed utility model is the implementation of a propellant charge of two different gunpowders with different burning rates not mixed together. Moreover, no diaphragm is installed between the defects, which simplifies the design of the cartridge and the technology for its manufacture. Grades of gunpowder are selected so that the mass of the powder charge is close to the mass of the powder charge of the cartridge according to the closest analogue and the maximum pressure of the powder gases does not exceed the limitations associated with the strength of smoothbore guns.
The equipment of the proposed cartridge on the modern Italian line “Ramba 640, 650”, available at the FSUE NMZ Iskra factory, is greatly simplified compared to the equipment of the cartridge known by the closest analogue due to the lack of the need to place an additional diaphragm element separating the charge into two parts.

The cartridge consists of: a cartridge case - 1, an igniter capsule - 2, a first type of gunpowder - 3, a second type of gunpowder - 4, a wad - 5 and a throwable body (shot or bullet) - 6.
An increase in the flight speed of the missile body in this cartridge design is achieved by selecting the right pair of gunpowders and their ratio so that the mass of the powder charge can be increased without increasing the maximum pressure of the powder gases. Usually this is done as follows: in a standard cartridge on a specific type of gunpowder, the mass of this particular gunpowder is reduced by a certain amount and another gunpowder is added with a mass much larger than this value, but with a lower burning rate. As tests have shown, this method can achieve a significant increase in the mass of the powder charge without increasing pressure.
The results of the equipment of the cartridges and their shooting with the measurement of the pressure of the powder gases and the flight speed of the shot confirmed the efficiency of the proposed design of the cartridges.
Loading conditions for the tested 12/70 caliber cartridges: Italian plastic capsule sleeve of the Fiocchi caliber, Italian Gualandi 12/70 caliber wad container, shot No. 3 (weight 33 g), the first part of the powder charge from Sokol gunpowder weighing 1.6 g, the second part of the powder charge from the “Sunar 42” gunpowder weighing 1.0 g. As a result of the firing of 20 pieces of ammunition from the MC 16-12 ballistic gun with measurement of speed and pressure according to the method according to OST 3-2468-74 received : average maximum pressure of the powder gases in the chamber of the gun P is 6 48 kgf / cm, and the average flight speed of the shot V at a distance of 10 m from the muzzle of the gun is 376 m / s.
It is important to note that on conventional cartridges at such a pressure of powder gases, the velocity of the fraction V will be only 325-330 m / s, i.e. about 16% lower.
To analyze the performance of the design of the proposed cartridge on French Nobel Sport gunpowders, cartridges with the same loading conditions were equipped, only Vektan D 20 gunpowder weighing 1.4 g was used as quick-burning gunpowder, and Vektan A6SP weighing slow-burning gunpowder was used 0.7 g. As a result of the firing of 20 pieces of cartridges, the following was obtained: P equal to 700 kgf / cm and V equal to 382 m / s, which confirms the operability of the proposed design on imported gunpowders.
