A method for producing N-phosphonomethyliminodiacetic acid, comprising: providing a disodium salt of iminodiacetic acid; adding a strong acid to said iminodiacetic acid disodium salt to obtain a stable solution containing a monosodium iminodiacetic acid salt; and storing or transporting said stable solution before subsequent processing, said treatment comprising reacting said iminodiacetic acid monosodium salt with additional strong acid, phosphorous acid and formaldehyde. 13.
