Abstract

FIELD: medicine, electrotherapy. SUBSTANCE: proposed method resides in temporarily blocking electrically conductance along nervi vagi by passing through them direct electric current having voltage 1-3 V and amperage 30-80 mA. Electric blocking is achieved owing to electrodes implanted under nerves and connected to receiver device comprising direct current source. Receiver device is implanted into subcutaneous cellular tissue in upper part of thorax. Electric blocking is started remotely by ratio-frequency method using transmitting device, command for start can be issued directly both by patient at moment of asthma attack, and periodically, in automatic mode, during inter-attack period for prophylaxis of bronchospasm attacks. However, if automatic mode for starting electric blocking of nerves is used, it is possible, if necessary, that patient himself could start emergency blocking with help of his (her) own electric blocking unit. For prophylaxis of asthma attacks by preventive electric blockings of nervi vagi, transmitting device comprises programmable timer containing programme for blockings for 24 hours. Specific hours and duration of electric blockings are programmed in advance making departure from actually observed periodicity and duration of asthma attacks in course of 24 hours in specific patient. EFFECT: it is possible to preset more accurately electric current parameters using control organs of transmitting device.

Claims (1)

A method for the treatment of bronchial asthma is proposed, which consists in temporary electrical blocking of conduction along the vagus nerves by passing through them a direct current of 1–3 V, current strength of 30–80 mA. Electro-blocking is carried out thanks to electrodes implanted under the nerves connected to a receiving device containing a direct current source. The receiving device is implanted in the subcutaneous tissue of the upper chest. Electro-blocking is switched on remotely by the radio frequency method using a transmitting device, and switching on can be performed both at the time of the attack directly by the patient, and for the purpose of preventing attacks of bronchospasm - periodically, automatically in the interictal period. Against the background of the operation of the automatic mode of electrical blocking of the nerves, it is possible that the patients themselves turn on the emergency blocking automatically. For the prevention of attacks by proactive electrical blocking of the vagus nerves, the transmitting device contains a programmable timer for blocking inclusions during the day. The time of day of inclusions and the duration of electrical blocking is programmed in advance, based on the frequency and duration of seizures during the day in a particular patient. During electrical blocking, a more accurate selection of the current mode is possible using the appropriate controls of the transmitting device to achieve its optimal effect in a particular patient.
