FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: desired polyvinyl ether has units having common formulawhere R,Rand Ris hydrogen or alkyl group, Ris alkylene group, Ris alkyl group and k=0-10. Said ether is prepared by polymerization of vinyl ether. Combination of Bronsted acid, Lewis acid or organometallic compounds with product of addition of water, alcohol, phenol, acetal or vinyl ether to carboxylic acid is used as initiator of said polymerization. Method for production of ether which comprises interaction of acetal or ketal having formulawith hydrogen is also proposed. Said interaction is carried out in the presence of solid catalyst having acid properties and hydrogenation capacity, thus RO or RO are converted into H. EFFECT: improves quality of desired product, improves efficiency of the method.
