Abstract

FIELD: physical analytical methods in organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: technical achievements in the area of analyses of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxines, dibenzofuranes, biphenyls, and other toxic environmental pollutants are examined. Characteristics of existing analytical methods and that based on phenomenon of adsorption-enhanced or "gigantic" combination scattering are compared. In respect to sensitivity, gigantic combination scattering spectroscopy is superior to mass- spectroscopy by several orders of magnitude, and its specificity to isomers is typical of sensitive to molecular structure oscillation spectroscopy. An analytical method for above listed and other toxic compounds is proposed combining gigantic combination scattering spectroscopy with concentrating analyte in adsorbed state directly on liquid-metal electrode thereby reducing its surface in absence of desorption of adsorbate. Aptitude of adsorbate-covered surface to the method employed is enhanced by converting scattering electrode into solid state and electrodeposition of a metal suitable for the method on electrode surface. EFFECT: increased sensitivity of analyses.

Claims (1)

A method is proposed for the analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, dibenzofurans, biphenyls and other toxic compounds, combining "giant" Raman spectroscopy with concentration of the analyte in an adsorbed state directly on a liquid metal electrode when its surface is reduced without adsorbate desorption. The SERS activity of the surface with the adsorbate is increased by transferring the scattering electrode to a solid state and the electrodeposition of the SSC active metal on it.
