Двигатель содержит цилиндр 1 с поршнем 3, соединенным с выходным валом 4 посредством гибкого элемента 7, выведенного через полость камеры сгорания и намотанного на барабан 8, и муфты свободного хода 9. Цикл работы двигателя состоит из впуска горючей смеси в полость "а" путем подъема поршня 3 нитью 10 зажигания горючей смеси на некоторой высоте подъема поршня при атмосферном давлении, рабочего хода, выполняемого при продолжении подъема поршня, а также выпуска, осуществляемого при обратном ходе поршня. За счет указанного расположения тяги поршня и непосредственной передачи работы поршня на выходной вал обеспечивается уменьшение массы и габаритов двигателя при одновременном облегчении работы муфты свободного хода, т.к. включение последней происходит на начальном этапе воспламенения, когда давление в цилиндре еще не велико. Это происходит за счет больших ускорений движения поршня при возможности выполнения его в данном двигателе предельно облегченным.
