The pressing force in the presses is created by the pressure of the elastic medium on the workpiece. In this case, the elastic medium works as a punch and clamp. To reduce the energy intensity of the process, a method is proposed for forming thin-sheet large-sized products consisting of two stages. At the first stage, the stamping is carried out using an elastic punch 1/3 of the predetermined depth. Then the upper plate of the hydraulic press with an elastic punch is raised to inspect the correctness of the start of shaping and create an air cushion over the workpiece. Next, carry out the second stage of the process of forming. The upper plate hydraulic press with an elastic punch is lowered with a working effort. Before lifting the upper plate of the hydraulic press, compressed air is supplied through the hole in the center of the elastic punch, as a result of which the pressure in the air cushion increases and the required deformation of the central part of the workpiece is ensured. According to the results of mathematical modeling of the method of stamping using the finite element method and checking the results obtained during the development of the method under mass production conditions, it was found that the diameter d of the compressed air supply channel located in the center of the elastic punch should satisfy the following relationship:
