Во внутреннем объеме мяча, например, футбольного, при помощи специальных средств закреплен миниатюрный радиопередатчик -«жучок» и его элемент питания. В качестве радиопередатчика- «жучка» может быть использовано любое миниатюрное подслушивающее устройство. «Жучок», установленный в мяче, воспринимает звук от удара по мячу или звук удара мяча о землю или о штангу ворот. Звук преобразуется в сигнал и улавливается радиоприемниками, расположенными на расстоянии до 150-200 м, т.е. за пределами поля. Далее сигнал транслируется в операторскую, где обрабатывается (например, усиливается, уменьшается), и если далее передается в телеэфир, то синхронизируется с видеоизображением и в таком виде передается в эфир. Звук ударов о мяч может транслироваться также динамиками, установленными непосредственно на стадионе, а также транслироваться по радио при радиорепортаже.
