Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of hydrometry and oceanography, methods for measuring the height of the interface between liquid and air, methods for measuring the slopes of the interface, for example, measuring the height of the waves, the wave spectrum, the slope spectrum.
A known method for determining the height of the air-liquid interface using a vertical rail with height labels immersed in the liquid [1]. However, this method has low accuracy, since it sums the height over the entire cross section of the rail, the interface for the transparent liquid is poorly distinguished, and this method does not register surface slopes. Another way is to measure the angular position of the glare of the sun reflected from the surface from the height of the aircraft [2]. But it is impossible to measure reflections from capillary or short gravitational waves. Measurements of slopes by reflected laser radiation are possible [3]. The disadvantage of this method is the departure of the glare from the aperture of the receiving system with even small slopes, which does not allow measuring slopes even with moderate excitement.
[5].The closest analogue is a method for determining the height of the air-liquid interface and surface slopes using a string waveograph [4]. It measures the electrical resistance of vertically arranged strings partially immersed in a liquid. When the liquid level changes, the resistance of the immersed part of the string decreases, and the height of the interface is determined from the total resistance of each string. The disadvantage of this method is the low accuracy of measurements due to changes in the resistance of the string when it is wetted, due to the deposition of salts and algae on the string and electrode, due to fluctuations in the resistance of the liquid, due to the capacitive properties of the electric circuit [5].
The technical result of the proposed method is to increase the accuracy of measurements by eliminating electrical measurements and optical registration of the liquid level on each string with high accuracy in the infrared wavelength range. The method allows you to position the strings at a distance of less than 1 cm, which is not available for electrical measurements.
To achieve a technical result in the proposed method, the strings crossing the water-air interface are illuminated with an infrared light source, and the immersion height of each string in the liquid is recorded on the infrared photodetector matrix according to the position of the interface on the strings.
4.In FIG. 1 shows a diagram of optical measurements of the level of the excited surface of a
In FIG. 2 shows a video frame made in infrared mode when illuminating three closely spaced strings at a wavelength of 940 nm. The bright part of the strings is in the air, and the boundaries move along the strings together with the liquid level.
If a vertically arranged string is illuminated with infrared light and its image is recorded on a video camera that is tuned to the same wavelength, then the surface part of the string will be brightly illuminated, while the underwater part will be much darker than FIG. 1. This is due to the absorption of infrared radiation by water. The interface between water and air is clearly visible on the photodetector array, which can be recorded up to the resolution of the matrix, i.e. with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. When the liquid level changes, for example due to excitement, the boundary moves along the string along with the liquid level. Registering the position of the interface on a digital photodetector array in time allows you to measure the dependence of the height of the liquid level in time. The method is optical, therefore, it does not have the disadvantages of an electric string waveograph: a change in the resistance of a string when it is wetted, precipitation of salts and algae on a string and an electrode, and a related change in electrical properties, fluctuations in the resistance of a liquid. When using the interference filter on the camcorder and lighting the strings in the frequency band of the filter, measurements can be performed both at night and in the daytime.
If several strings are placed nearby, then the level will be recorded at neighboring points, which will make it possible to register surface slopes at various spatial scales, FIG. 2. The proposed method does not use electrical signals, so several strings can be placed nearby that will not affect each other. To register the slopes of the liquid surface in the orthogonal directions of the string can be arranged in two perpendicular rows. The accuracy of the proposed optical method for measuring the liquid level has a scale of less than 1 millimeter. This allows you to place two or more strings close to each other and measure surface slopes at small scales, which is not available when using electric string waveographs.
An example implementation of the method is to illuminate the interface (1) and vertically arranged strings (3), FIG. 1, a matrix of infrared LEDs (2) emitting at a wavelength of 940 nanometers, and recording the image of the strings on a video camera (4), which has an infrared filter. In FIG. Figure 2 shows a video frame of the image of strings on which the water-air interface is clearly recorded. Registration of the height of the illuminated part of the strings in time on digital images of the video camera made it possible to measure the dependence of the height of the liquid level at the points of the strings in time and, with a known distance between the strings, made it possible to obtain slopes at various spatial scales and their change in time.
