Abstract
Description
The invention relates to metallurgy and relates to a method for producing calcium. The invention can be used to produce alkali and alkaline earth metals, but it is mainly intended to produce calcium in the electrolysis mode of a non-aqueous solution of calcium salt.
An analogue of the proposed invention is a metallothermic process for the reduction of calcium metal from its oxide using aluminum (RF patent No. 2205241 - V.K. Kulifeev et al.). The disadvantage of this method is its large metal consumption, the complexity of the hardware design, extremely high energy consumption - the process is carried out at a temperature above + 1000 ° C for a long time.
А. 14-123).The prototype of the proposed invention is a method for producing calcium, which consists of five basic operations: calcining limestone, converting calcium hydroxide to a dry salt of calcium chloride, electrolytic metal extraction at a copper-calcium cathode, distillation of calcium from a copper-calcium alloy and smelting the condensate into an ingot (Doronin N .A. Calcium. M .: Gosatomizdat, 1962, p. 14-123).
The method of producing calcium, based on the electrolysis of molten calcium chloride, is characterized by significant energy consumption - the process is carried out at a temperature above + 800 ° C for a long time, followed by distillation of calcium from a copper-calcium alloy in high vacuum at high temperatures of about 1000 ° C. . These processes are extremely energy consuming.
The disadvantage of this method is the extremely high energy intensity of the production process of the target product - calcium metal - electrolysis of molten calcium chloride is carried out at + 800 ° C and above for several hours. The resulting calcium in the form of a copper-calcium alloy requires purification by distillation in high vacuum at a temperature of about 1000 ° C. This stage is also a highly energy-consuming process and the “dead weight” rests on the cost of the final product - calcium metal. All this increases costs in the production of calcium: increases its cost, leads to significant costs of fuel and electricity for heating process devices.
In the present invention, the goal is achieved, which is to increase the specific productivity, reduce energy consumption, reduce the number of technological operations with a significant reduction in labor costs, obtain calcium in finely divided form, immediately suitable for the production of calcium wire.
The specified goal is achieved as follows.
A solution of a calcium salt, for example calcium chloride, or calcium acetate in a non-aqueous aprotic solvent is prepared. Use either dimethyl sulfoxide or dimethylacetamide, or a mixture thereof. Next, this solution is transferred to an electrolytic apparatus and subjected to direct current. Electrolysis is carried out at a metal cathode and a graphite anode. The electrolysis process is carried out at room temperature from 18 to 25 ° C. The electrolysis time depends on the concentration of the originally taken calcium salt, is from 1 to 3 hours. The target product - calcium metal is deposited on the cathode in the form of a fine crystalline powder, "grains". At the end of the electrolysis process, calcium metal is separated by simple settling from the solvent, washed with an inert solvent, such as hexane, dried in a vacuum, then packed in vessels with argon and sent to the following possible redistributions: production of calcium wire, castings, etc. The method of producing calcium, carried out according to the above method, can significantly reduce energy consumption.
Table 1 shows specific examples of the method.
