Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for extracting a polymer from a liquid medium containing it, as well as to a powder of polymer particles, which can be obtained by this method.
Polymers are widely used in various forms, mainly in the solid state. However, it happens that at one or several stages of their existence they are present in a liquid medium, more often in the form of a solution in a solvent, from which they must then be extracted. Thus, polymer solutions must be processed at the end of some polymerization methods (called “solution polymerization methods”), during some recycling methods and in the cleaning process of some plants for the manufacture of polymer-containing objects or paints. The recovery of the solid polymer from the solution usually involves at least one step of evaporating the solvent. Currently, this operation is often expensive due to its energy consumption and does not necessarily provide polymer particles with suitable particle size distribution. In addition, these polymer particles often have a residual solvent content that is not negligible.
JP patent application 11/012390 describes a method for recovering a polymer from a solution, wherein said solution is sprayed and contacted with steam to evaporate solvent residues. However, it was found that this method is applicable only to dilute polymer solutions, and solutions that are too concentrated are too viscous to form droplets when sprayed.
Patent application WO 03/054064 (Solway) describes a process for recovering a polymer from a solution in a solvent, generally forming a homogeneous medium. This method includes the following steps:
(1) в гомогенную среду вводят нерастворитель (осадитель) с тем, чтобы сделать ее гетерогенной;(1) a non-solvent (precipitant) is introduced into the homogeneous medium in order to make it heterogeneous;
(2) гетерогенную среду превращают в капли при распылении;(2) a heterogeneous medium is converted into droplets by spraying;
(3) капли приводят в контакт с газом, который выпаривает растворитель;(3) droplets are brought into contact with a gas that evaporates the solvent;
(4) the polymer is recovered in particulate form.
Despite the fact that the method described in the last application makes it possible to extract polymers from more concentrated solutions, it was found that in this case, the removal of the solvent by evaporation in stage (3) is not always carried out with the desired efficiency, it is possible to find a small part of the solvent in the polymer particles which agglomerate and form a crust in a spray device. In addition, in order to reduce the height of the device to reasonable proportions, high temperature is often used, which quickly leads to blockage of the spray nozzles.
Other methods have been proposed, including spraying / spraying a polymer solution. So, for example, CA 617788 describes a method for recovering polymer wastes by dissolving them in a low boiling solvent and injecting the solution into boiling water, or vice versa, when steam is introduced into the polymer solution. However, the polymer particles obtained in this way are in the form of porous flakes that have a high residual solvent content and which are difficult and even impossible to use in conventional technology (extrusion, calendering, injection molding, etc.). In addition, the method described herein is a batch method that is economically disadvantageous in industrial production.
An object of the present invention is, therefore, to provide an improved method for recovering a polymer from a liquid medium containing polymer at concentrations that can be high, while providing a final solid product with a low residual solvent content and a morphology and particle size distribution that are readily controlled. This method is also a method that can be easily modified to continuous.
Therefore, the present invention relates to a method for extracting a polymer from a liquid medium containing a polymer and a solvent for the latter, according to which:
(а) указанную жидкую среду вводят в реактор, содержащий перемешиваемую по существу однофазную жидкую смесь, содержащую основную долю (фракцию) по массе нерастворителя и малую долю (фракцию) по массе растворителя, причем смесь имеет такие состав и температуру, что полимер постепенно осаждается из нее;(a) said liquid medium is introduced into a reactor containing a stirred essentially single-phase liquid mixture containing a major fraction (fraction) by weight of non-solvent and a small fraction (fraction) by weight of solvent, the mixture having such a composition and temperature that the polymer gradually precipitates from her;
(b) полимер извлекают в форме частиц, суспендированных в жидкости, обогащенной нерастворителем;(b) the polymer is recovered in the form of particles suspended in a liquid enriched in a non-solvent;
(с) полимерные частицы отделяют от жидкости.(c) the polymer particles are separated from the liquid.
A key factor of the present invention lies in the combination of a "bath" precipitation containing a solvent (and not just a non-solvent), and adequate mixing of the specified bath. Without the desire to be bound by any particular theory, the applicant believes that the fact of using a mixture of a non-solvent and a solvent as a “bath” slows down the deposition rate and makes it possible, facilitates the drainage of the solvent from solution droplets. In addition, the fact of using adequate mixing makes it possible to maintain polymer particles in suspension during their formation (from solution droplets) and to prevent their agglomeration.
The polymer, whose recovery is the purpose of the method of the present invention, can be of any nature. It may consist of a thermoplastic resin or elastomer, but in any case a resin that can be dissolved in a solvent and which therefore is only slightly crosslinked or crosslinked. It may consist of a resin that has not been previously used (or a starting resin), which has not undergone any molding by melting, with the exception of possible granulation, or it may consist of an already used resin (waste products or recycled resin). It may consist of non-polar polymers such as ethylene polymers (PE) or propylene polymers (PP). It may also consist of polar polymers, such as polymers derived from styrene monomers, acrylic monomers and halogenated monomers with ethylene unsaturation or, in addition, ethylene / vinyl alcohol (EVOH) or ethylene / vinyl acetate or butyl acrylate (EVA, EBA, etc.) .d.). It may also consist of thermoplastic polymers obtained by a condensation reaction, such as polycarbonates, obtained, for example, by the reaction of bisphenol A and phosgene.
Среди гомополимеров стирола, которые могут быть извлечены способом настоящего изобретения, может быть указан прозрачный полистирол, называемый «кристаллическим» или «общего назначения», как определено, например, в “Encyclopedia of Polymer Science and Engineering”, published by John Wiley & Sons, volume 16, 1989, pages 62-63. Among the polymers derived from styrene monomers, styrene homopolymers and copolymers may be mentioned. Among the styrene homopolymers that can be recovered by the method of the present invention, there may be indicated transparent polystyrene called “crystalline” or “general purpose”, as defined, for example, in “Encyclopedia of Polymer Science and Engineering”, published by John Wiley & Sons, volume 16, 1989, pages 62-63. Foamed polystyrene can also be indicated, which can be obtained either by introducing a blowing agent, such as, for example, pentane, during polymerization and subsequent steam treatment, or by introducing a gas (e.g., pentane) under pressure into the molten polymer during its extrusion .
Among the styrene copolymers that can be recovered by the method of the present invention, there may be indicated:

Блок, содержащий стирольные звенья, может быть сам сополимером, таким как сополимер стирол-акрилонитрил или стирол-метилметакрилат.- copolymers containing a block containing styrene units, and an elastomeric block; this category includes polystyrene, called “high impact polystyrene” ((SCP) (HIPS)). These copolymers are more often obtained by grafting an elastomeric block onto a styrene block. As graftable elastomeric blocks, polybutadiene, butadiene-styrene copolymers and ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymers can be mentioned. The block containing styrene units may itself be a copolymer, such as a styrene-acrylonitrile or styrene-methyl methacrylate copolymer.
Among the polymers derived from acrylic monomers, there may be mentioned polymers derived from alkyl acrylates and methacrylates, the alkyl radical of which has 1-18 carbon atoms. As examples of these polymers, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl and n-butyl acrylates and methacrylates can be mentioned.
The term “polymers derived from halogenated ethylene unsaturated monomers” is intended to mean, in the framework of the present invention, homopolymers of said monomers as well as copolymers that they form between themselves and / or with at least one non-halogenated ethylene monomer unsaturation. The halogenated monomer is preferably selected from chlorinated and fluorinated monomers, in particular from chlorinated monomers.
Polymers derived from fluorinated monomers are meant to mean homopolymers of these monomers and copolymers that they form with at least one other halogenated monomer and / or other non-halogenated ethylene unsaturated monomer such as ethylene, vinyl acetate and acrylic or methacrylic monomers. .
It is understood that fluorinated monomers mean fluorinated monomers with ethylene unsaturation, which are aliphatic and which have one or more fluorine atoms as the only heteroatom or heteroatoms. As examples of fluorinated monomers in which the number of fluorine atoms is 1, allyl fluoride and vinyl fluoride can be mentioned. As an example of a fluorinated monomer in which the number of fluorine atoms is 2, vinylidene fluoride may be indicated.
Particular preference is given to vinylidene fluoride polymers. It is understood that vinylidene fluoride polymers mean, for the purposes of the present invention, all polymers containing at least about 50% by weight of monomeric units derived from vinylidene fluoride, and therefore, including vinylidene fluoride homopolymers, as well as vinylidene fluoride copolymers with one or several ethylenically unsaturated monomers that are predominantly fluorinated. Other fluorinated monomers that may be used may include vinyl fluoride, trifluoroethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene, tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene.
Polymers derived from chlorinated monomers are meant to mean homopolymers of these monomers and copolymers that they form with at least one other halogenated monomer and / or other non-halogenated ethylene unsaturated monomer such as vinyl esters, acrylic or methacrylic monomers , styrene monomers and olefin monomers.
Chlorinated monomers are meant to mean ethylene unsaturated chlorinated monomers that are aliphatic and that have a single heteroatom or atoms of one or more chlorine atoms. As examples of chlorinated monomers in which the number of chlorine atoms is 1, allyl chloride, crotyl chloride and vinyl chloride can be mentioned. As an example of a chlorinated monomer in which the number of chlorine atoms is 2, vinylidene chloride may be mentioned.
The method according to the present invention is also applicable to mixtures of polymers mentioned above, where they can be of the same species or of a different kind. Among these polymer blends, the following may be indicated:
- смеси полистирола и полифениленоксида;- mixtures of polystyrene and polyphenylene oxide;

- смеси указанных АБС-смол с поликарбонатами;- mixtures of these ABS resins with polycarbonates;
- полимерные смеси, полученные из винилхлорида с АБС-смолами.- polymer mixtures obtained from vinyl chloride with ABS resins.
Among all the polymers and polymer mixtures mentioned above, good results were obtained with polymers obtained from vinyl chloride (PVC), with polymers derived from vinylidene fluorides and vinylidene chloride (PVDF and PVDC), with homopolymers and copolymers of styrene, with ABS resins, with polycarbonates and with mixtures of these polymers. Polymers that are particularly suitable for the recovery of the process of the present invention are PVC, PVDC, crystalline polystyrene, high impact polystyrene, ABS resins and polycarbonates. In particular, PVC, styrene homopolymers and copolymers of styrene and ABS resins are very suitable for the process of the present invention.
In general, the polymer may be in any form. It can, for example, consist of waste from polymerization, compounding or processing, as a special case can be in a liquid or dough-like state, possibly even in solution in a solvent. It may also consist of solid objects containing one or more conventional additives, such as, for example, plasticizers, stabilizers, antioxidants, flame retardants, pigments, fillers, etc., including reinforcing fibers. These fibers can be of any kind - natural or synthetic, and can be used made of glass, cellulose or polymer fibers. They often consist of polymer fibers, in particular polyester fibers.
1,8.The method according to the present invention is applicable to the recovery of any polymer contained in the liquid medium itself containing a solvent for the specified polymer. According to the present invention, said solvent, in which the polymer is at least partially soluble and, more often, completely soluble, is usually a liquid having a solubility parameter (the definition of which and experimental values are presented in “Properties of Polymers”, DWVan Krevelen , 1990 edition, pp. 200-202, as well as in the “Polymer Handbook”, J. Brandrup and EHImmergut, Editors, Second Edition, p. IV-337 and IV-359), which is close to the polymer solubility parameter, and / or having a strong interaction with it (for example, hydrogen bonds). The term "close to" is intended to determine the solubility parameters of the polymer (expressed in MPa), which usually do not differ by more than about 1.8.
In general, an organic, preferably polar, solvent is used, such as ketones, in particular MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), which gives good results with many polymers and, in particular, with halogenated polymers such as PVC. It is implied that the solvents are single substances, as well as mixtures of substances. In particular, in the case of a recirculation method operating continuously and / or in a closed loop, the solvent may be a stream of recirculated liquid and may contain a certain amount of non-solvent. In general, the boiling point of these compounds under normal conditions is below 150 ° C, more often below 120 ° C. The possible presence of water in these compounds or in said mixtures of compounds is not excluded. Preferably, however, these compounds are not very soluble in water (low solubility is usually 30 wt.%, Preferably about 20 wt.% Or even 6 wt.% (In the case of DEC) with respect to the mass of water at normal temperature and pressure ), or they themselves dissolve only a small amount of water.
Examples of solvents that are well suited may include:

The non-solvent used in the method according to the present invention, in the General case, has a solubility parameter different from the solubility parameter of the recoverable polymer, and does not have a strong interaction with the latter. The term “different” means that the difference between the solubility parameters of the non-solvent and the polymer exceeds 4 units or even 6 units. A non-solvent, which is very suitable (since it has a high solubility parameter, different from the solubility parameter of most polymers, and is preferable from an environmental point of view), is water, especially when the recoverable polymer is an ABS resin, styrene or PVC polymer. In addition, many types of plastic waste contain a small amount of water, which is therefore also in the environment, and therefore, from this point of view, the choice of water as a non-solvent is equally advisable. When the recoverable polymer is PVDF or PVDC, methanol is a very suitable non-solvent.
In the method according to the present invention, the liquid medium from which the solvent must be removed in order to recover the polymer may allow various aspects, such as:
- раствор полимера в органическом растворителе (чистый растворитель, или смесь, или органическая фаза, содержащая воду);- a solution of the polymer in an organic solvent (pure solvent, or a mixture, or an organic phase containing water);
- дисперсия твердых частиц полимера в органическом растворителе (чистый растворитель, или смесь, или органическая фаза, содержащая воду);- dispersion of solid polymer particles in an organic solvent (pure solvent, or mixture, or organic phase containing water);
- органическая/водная двухфазная среда, из которых матрицей является водная фаза (возможны диспергаторы);- organic / aqueous two-phase medium, of which the matrix is the aqueous phase (dispersants are possible);
- полимерный раствор в органической фазе, диспергированной в водной фазе;- a polymer solution in the organic phase dispersed in the aqueous phase;
- суспензия полимерных частиц в органической фазе, диспергированной в водной фазе;- a suspension of polymer particles in the organic phase dispersed in the aqueous phase;
- органическая/водная двухфазная среда, из которых матрицей является органическая фаза (возможны диспергаторы);- organic / aqueous two-phase medium, of which the matrix is the organic phase (dispersants are possible);
- полимерный раствор в органической фазе, содержащей диспергированные капли воды;- a polymer solution in the organic phase containing dispersed drops of water;
- суспензия полимерных частиц в органической фазе, содержащей диспергированные капли воды.- a suspension of polymer particles in the organic phase containing dispersed drops of water.
When the source of the polymer recoverable by the method according to the present invention is a dilute solution of said polymer in a solvent (i.e., a solution containing not more than 20 wt.%, Preferably not more than 10 wt.%, Of a polymer), it can be processed by the method according to the present invention, as it is. Therefore, according to a preferred first embodiment, the liquid process medium is essentially a single-phase medium consisting of a solution of the polymer in a solvent.
On the other hand, when the polymer source is a solid object containing said polymer, it is usually preferable from an economic point of view to use as little solvent as possible to convert it into solution and be able to recover it substantially by precipitation. In this case, as indicated above, it is usually preferable not to use this solution (which is too viscous) directly, but to use the dispersion (emulsion) of this concentrated resin solution in a non-solvent (the aqueous phase, for example, is required to reduce the viscosity of the system to the viscosity of water (non-solvent) ) at a given temperature). Therefore, according to a first preferred embodiment, the liquid process medium is a two-phase medium consisting of a polymer solution (possibly containing polymer particles) dispersed in a non-solvent phase.
The concentration of recoverable polymer in a liquid medium can vary to a large extent. In general, the amount of polymer is more than 5 wt.% With respect to the total weight of the liquid medium, preferably more than 10 wt.% And more preferably more than 15 wt.%. The specified amount of dissolved polymer usually does not exceed 60 wt.% Of the total mass of the solution, preferably not more than 40 wt.%, More preferably not more than 35 wt.%. Too low polymer concentration results in high energy consumption for solvent removal. Too high a concentration of polymer impairs the fluidity of the solution and its processing.
80°C.The temperature at which the polymer dissolves or disperses in a liquid medium can also vary to a large extent. It is usually above 0 ° C, preferably above 20 ° C or more preferably at least 30 ° C. In general, it does not exceed the normal boiling point of the solvent. Preferably, it has values below 130 ° C or even below 110 ° C, more preferably below 80 ° C.
д. В общем случае, когда указанные диспергаторы используются, они вводятся в степени 0,01-2 мас.%, предпочтительно в степени 0,05-0,5 мас.%.In order to facilitate the preparation and / or stabilization of the emulsions or biphasic medium mentioned above, known dispersants can be introduced into the dispersed phase in conventional amounts. As dispersants, polyvinyl alcohols and their sodium salts, cellulose ethers, polyethylene glycol, etc. can be indicated. In the General case, when these dispersants are used, they are introduced in the degree of 0.01-2 wt.%, Preferably in the degree of 0.05-0.5 wt.%.
These emulsions can be formed by any conventional method well known to one skilled in the art. Thus, it is possible, for example, to introduce a suitable volume of a dispersible phase (for example, water or an organic phase, respectively) with intensive and rapid mixing into a predetermined volume of a dispersible phase (organic phase or water, respectively).
Routine experiments allow a person skilled in the art to determine the appropriate volumes of the dispersible phase and the dispersing phase in order to obtain a stable emulsion. So, for example, in the case where the polymer is ABS resin or styrene polymer and the solvent is DEC, good results are obtained at a temperature in the range of 60-75 ° C at a pressure from atmospheric pressure to 3 bar with emulsions containing 500 g of polymer per 1000 g of DEK, in which 1500-2000 g of water is added.
In the method according to the present invention, a liquid medium containing a polymer is introduced into a reactor containing a substantially single-phase liquid mixture of a non-solvent and a solvent for the polymer. The solvent present in said substantially single-phase mixture (also referred to simply as “the mixture” in the present description) meets the definitions and limitations set forth above with respect to a liquid medium containing a recoverable polymer. Most likely, the solvent of the liquid medium and the solvent of the mixture are compounds of a similar nature, having solubility parameters that are close or even identical. Preferably, the solvent of the liquid medium and the mixture is the same compound.
According to the present invention, the solvent and the non-solvent are at least partially miscible, since they are capable of forming a single-phase medium when the main fraction of the non-solvent and the small fraction of the solvent are mixed.
Appropriate amounts of solvent and non-solvent used to produce a substantially single-phase liquid mixture can be easily determined by routine experiments. This can, for example, be done by gradually introducing the solvent into the liquid phase, consisting of a non-solvent, until saturated before any decanting. Thus, for example, in the case where the non-solvent is water and the solvent is MEK or DEC, good results are obtained when the aqueous phase is saturated, respectively 15-20 wt.% Or 3-5 wt.% Solvent at a temperature of 60-90 ° C and pressure of 0.5-1 bar. The advantage of working with solvent-saturated non-solvents is that it significantly slows down the deposition and improves the removal of solvent from the liquid medium in the reactor. On the other hand, attention should be paid to the selection of conditions (in particular, temperature and pressure in accordance with the phase diagram of the solvent / non-solvent) so as not to bring to the appearance of the phase of the solvent, which will cause the polymer particles to form agglomerates when they are formed.
The preparation of a substantially single-phase liquid mixture can be facilitated by introducing the dispersants mentioned above into the non-solvent. The presence of said dispersants is also preferred as long as it makes it possible to control the morphology and size of the polymer particles recovered in accordance with the method of the present invention.
The introduction of a liquid medium containing the recoverable polymer into a substantially single-phase liquid mixture can be accomplished by any method generally known to one skilled in the art. Preferably, said introduction is carried out by introducing a liquid medium into the liquid mixture in the form of a continuous stream or by spraying the first in the second. The latter gives good results, since it supports the production of small droplets, from which the removal of the solvent into the liquid mixture is facilitated.
Spray nozzles that can be used for this purpose are preferably “full cone” type nozzles, preferably operating at low pressure (usually below 7 bar) and providing a medium with small droplets (typically in the range of 500-1700 μm). FULLJET systems supplied by Spaying Systems Co. provide good results. They create controlled turbulence at the outlet, which seems favorable. More preferably, modular systems are used (in which the head and diverging parts can be disassembled and replaced). These parts are preferably metal parts and most preferably are made of stainless steel.
As soon as the liquid medium containing the polymer is introduced into the liquid medium containing the "bath" of the deposition, the polymer begins to precipitate and the above drops are gradually purified from the solvent, so that form particles or particles of the polymer suspended in the liquid. As indicated above, it is important to avoid particle agglomeration during the formation process by sufficiently mixing the bath. For this purpose, a mechanical stirrer (for example, a propeller type) can be used, rotating at a speed of the order of hundreds of rpm (revolutions per minute), for example, 500-800 rpm. A receiver containing a liquid medium is preferably also provided with counterclaws.
е. содержащей обычно менее 20 мас.% растворителя (в случае МЭК) или даже менее 6 мас.% растворителя (в случае ДЭК).In the method according to the present invention, which is either continuous or batch, attention is usually paid to removing a significant fraction of the solvent before removing the suspension of polymer particles. Therefore, what is recovered after gradual precipitation of the polymer is a suspension of polymer particles in a liquid enriched in a non-solvent, i.e. usually containing less than 20 wt.% solvent (in the case of IEC) or even less than 6 wt.% solvent (in the case of DEC).
Said solvent removal may be carried out by any suitable method. It is preferable to remove the solvent by evaporation at any suitable pressure, which, of course, is possible only if a solvent is selected that evaporates before the non-solvent and / or which forms an azeotropic mixture enriched in the solvent. According to a preferred embodiment of the method according to the present invention, the solvent and non-solvent form an azeotropic mixture enriched in the solvent, and the liquid mixture undergoes distillation under essentially azeotropic conditions with the introduction of non-solvent vapor. This procedure is preferable from the point of view of energy when the azeotropic mixture is turned on, the boiling point of which is lower than the boiling point of its components. Then it is preferable to work (at a given pressure) at a temperature that is slightly higher than the temperature of the azeotropic mixture, in order to prevent the formation of an organic phase in the initially single-phase mixture, which can lead to agglomeration of polymer particles.
To accelerate the evaporation, a pressure lower than atmospheric is preferably used. Typically, the pressure is 0.1-1 bar, preferably 0.5-1 bar. For example, a pressure of 600 mbar and a temperature of 60 ° C (75 ° C) or a pressure of 1 bar and a temperature of 80 ° C (90 ° C) give good results with IEC / water and DEK / water vapor.
In the case where the method according to the present invention is a batch process, the “azeotropic” distillation preferably continues to the end before a suspension of polymer particles is recovered. It is understood that this means that substantially all of the solvent is removed from the liquid contained in the reactor.
However, as indicated earlier, one of the advantages of the method according to the present invention is that it can be adapted for continuous operation, but then, of course, the composition of the liquid in the reactor is preferably constant (at least when stationary operation is achieved) ), and therefore such a significant removal is no longer possible. Therefore, according to another preferred embodiment, the method according to the present invention is a continuous method in which the introduction of a liquid medium and a vapor of non-solvent, as well as the extraction of a suspension of polymer particles, takes place continuously at flow rates and under conditions that are selected so as to keep the reactor stationary mode in the selected conditions (quasi) -azeotropic distillation (temperature, pressure, composition). In this method, the solvent used to dissolve the polymer usually contains a certain amount (insignificant by weight) of the non-solvent, and, of course, the solvent used to precipitate the polymer contains a fraction (insignificant by weight) of the solvent. This is because preferably the various effluents are reused as such (without pre-treatment) in the process.
WO 03/054064.After significant solvent removal, well-formed polymer particles are then recovered, which are suspended in a medium enriched with a non-solvent remaining in the liquid medium or constituting the liquid medium contained in the reactor. These particles can then be separated from the non-solvent by any conventional method of separating the solid from the liquid, such as decantation, centrifugation (drainage), filtration, steam stripping, etc. You can also combine such treatments. It is possible, for example, to combine filtration / centrifugation and drying / distillation using a suitable device, such as, for example, a stripping column. Due to the fact that the polymer particles obtained by the method according to the present invention are drained and the residual solvent content in them is low, the size of such a column can be reduced in comparison with the size that would be necessary for the installation operating in accordance with the method according to the above application WO 03/054064.
An important advantage of the extraction method according to the present invention is that it can operate in a closed loop (either continuously or intermittently, but with substantially complete recycling of the solvent without waste). Indeed, the liquid remaining after the separation of the polymer particles, which mainly consists of a non-solvent, may optionally be recycled by suitable treatment. This treatment may consist of one or more distillations, flocculation, decantation, washing, etc. and from combinations of these treatments.
According to a most preferred embodiment, at least a portion of the liquid treated in this way can serve to flush the reactor and prevent it from crusting. Indeed, in the general case, a reactor (or usually a closed chamber, usually with temperature and pressure control, provided with a stirrer and possibly provided with an opening or opening that can be closed, and / or pipes for introducing reagents and additives, etc. and for removing products ( polymer, liquid, vapor)) has an inner wall, the lower part of which is in contact with the liquid mixture, and the upper part of which is in contact with the gas phase into which the liquid medium is introduced. Preferably, a portion of the liquid obtained from the suspension after separation of the polymer particles is used to continuously flush at least a portion of the upper part of the inner wall of the reactor.
Similarly, when the solvent (s) is removed or has been removed from the suspension by azeotropic distillation with water, the vapors resulting from this distillation can condense and form a liquid phase that can be processed as described above and recycled so as to be used in the process , for example, to dissolve the polymer.

In Figure 1, you can see the reactor (2) with a stirrer containing essentially a single-phase medium consisting of water saturated with DEC and containing a suspending agent (Poval 420). In this reactor, which is in stationary mode and in which the temperature is controlled at 75 ° C and the pressure at 600 mbar, an ABS solution or emulsion (1), as well as steam (3) are introduced in order to remove DEC (or its significant part) by distillation under quasi-azeotropic conditions. The removed pairs (4) are collected and condensed in order to be reused.
2, it can be seen how this continuous process is carried out by means of suitable treatments and reagent streams. It is sufficient to continuously remove a suspension stream (5) of polymer particles from the bottom of the reservoir (2); process said stream (5) in a stripping column (6) into which steam (3) is introduced countercurrently; remove part of the steamed polymer particles (7), i.e. polymer particles, purified from the solvent, but containing water, and, on the other hand, a steam stream (3 ') containing a solvent that is introduced into the reactor (3') as a source of steam; remove polymer particles containing water (8) in order to obtain, on the one hand, a stream of wet particles (9) that will dry (which is similar to the formation of a vapor stream, which is not shown, which can be used in the method), and, on the other hand, a water stream (3 ”), also recycled to the reactor, and which can act, as shown in FIG. 3, as a flushing / anti-crusting agent for the tank.
Dow.The following examples are also intended to illustrate the invention without limiting its scope. They use the reactor shown in figure 1, a periodic type. Resins used are Novodur 2PH-AT (ABS) from Bayer and Styron 485 (AMP) from Dow.
These examples illustrate the preparation of ABS beads from a 20% ABS solution in pure MEK or from a pure 25% solution in pure DEK. To accomplish this, the solution is introduced by spraying (crushing) into a single-phase mixture occupying the lower part of a cylindrical reactor equipped with counter-blades and provided with a propeller stirrer rotating at a speed of 650 rpm, which (mixture) was obtained by introducing 300 g of MEK or 200 g of DEK into 2000 g of water containing as dispersant polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) Poval 420 in the degree of 0.3-0.4 wt.% In relation to the weight of the resulting resin.
A single-phase mixture with an aqueous matrix in which the solution was sprayed was saturated with a solvent (MEK or DEC). The composition of the indicated single-phase mixture is determined by the desired temperature and pressure conditions. The pressure is controlled by a vacuum pump, and the medium is heated by introducing steam through the bottom of the reactor. When the azeotropic solvent / water mixture begins to distill, the steam flow is adjusted to obtain the desired temperature at the desired pressure. Finally, when the system is stationary, a polymer solution is introduced. The steam flow is controlled so that the temperature and pressure remain constant inside the reactor during the period when the solvent is removed.
Spraying is carried out using a

Данные примеры показывают, что способ согласно настоящему изобретению делает возможным получение шариков АБС-смолы с очень специфической морфологией (шарики с d <600 мкм) распылением концентрированных растворов АБС в МЭК или ДЭК в однофазной смеси с водной матрицей, насыщенной МЭК (примеры 1 и 2) или ДЭК (пример 3).These examples show that the method according to the present invention makes it possible to obtain balls of ABS resin with a very specific morphology (balls with d <600 μm) by spraying concentrated solutions of ABS in IEC or DEC in a single-phase mixture with an aqueous matrix saturated with IEC (examples 1 and 2 ) or DEC (example 3).
Дисперсия «распыляется» в воде, содержащей подходящий диспергатор, в данном случае поливиниловый спирт (ПВС) Poval 420.These examples show how, in accordance with the method of the present invention, polymer particles can be recovered from highly concentrated, and therefore highly viscous, solutions. In this case, the removal of the solvent is achieved by spraying, not just a solution, but a dispersion (emulsion) of the polymer concentrated solution in the aqueous phase (non-solvent) in order to bring the viscosity of the system to the viscosity of water (non-solvent) at the temperature at which the operation is performed. The dispersion is "sprayed" in water containing a suitable dispersant, in this case polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) Poval 420.
The aqueous phase in which the solution is sprayed in the reactor is also saturated with solvent. The composition of the indicated single-phase mixture is determined by the desired temperature and pressure conditions. This is obtained by introducing 2000 g of water and 200 g of DEK into the precipitation reactor. The pressure is controlled by a vacuum pump and the medium is heated by introducing steam through the bottom of the reactor. When the azeotropic DEK / water mixture begins to distill off, the steam flow is adjusted to obtain the desired temperature at the desired pressure. Finally, when the system is stationary, a polymer solution is introduced. The steam flow is controlled so that the temperature and pressure remain constant inside the reactor during the operation to remove the solvent. Spraying is carried out using a

Example 4 shows that if, with vigorous stirring, an emulsion is obtained from an ABS solution into which 1500 g of water is introduced, the combination can be sprayed and the particulate polymer recovered in the precipitation reactor. Examples 5, 6 and 7 show that it is possible to do the same with HIPS under various conditions of temperature and pressure.
