Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of producing fuel for nuclear power plants and can be used to produce high purity uranium oxides in the processing of natural uranium chemical concentrate.
Natural uranium chemical concentrate (HKPU) contains up to 40 wt.% Uranium at a moisture content of ≈40% and is a mixture of salts of sodium, ammonium uranyl tricarbonates and ammonium polyuranates of variable composition. HKPU is obtained by precipitation with a carbonate-ammonia mixture from desorbates after anion-exchange sorption of uranium from solutions of underground leaching of uranium ores. Processing HKPU with a high content of certain impurities (iron, aluminum, phosphorus, sulfates), especially silicon (0.3 ÷ 3.6%, on average 0.5%) is accompanied by serious difficulties associated with the complication of extraction processing and lower quality of finished products .
A known method of processing a chemical concentrate of natural uranium with a content of uranium oxide of uranium 80 ÷ 90% [1]. The method consists in dissolving the concentrate in a mixture of sulfuric and hydrochloric acids at a pH of 0.5 ÷ 2.5, followed by processing the resulting solution with a diaminocarboxyl acid type chelate resin. In this case, iron, copper, molybdenum and vanadium are selectively removed from the solution. The solution treated in this way is neutralized in two stages: in the first stage, the pH is adjusted in the range of 2.5 ÷ 4.0 with calcium hydroxide to remove aluminum; in a second step, gaseous ammonia is introduced into the filtered solution to precipitate ammonium diuranate. The resulting precipitate is separated from the liquid, calcined at 350 ÷ 500 ° C until the formation of uranium trioxide or at 550 ° C and above until the formation of uranium oxide.
The disadvantages of this method are: multi-stage process, loss of uranium with calcium-aluminum-containing cake, limited ability to process concentrates with a high content of impurities or change the impurity composition of the concentrate. When processing concentrates containing silicon, the following difficulties arise in this method. First, silicon during ion-exchange treatment of the solution is not sorbed by chelating resin. Secondly, when the pH of the medium is less than 2, gelation occurs due to aggregation of silica sols, the gel-like mass passing through a layer of granules of ion-exchange resin clogs micropores, reduces the sorption activity of the resin. This requires frequent flushing. Thirdly, in the first stage of hydrolytic precipitation, when the pH of the medium is adjusted with calcium oxide to 2.5–4.0, only a small part of silicon is coprecipitated with aluminum, and its main amount in the second stage of neutralization with gaseous ammonia is coprecipitated with ammonium diuranate. In the subsequent heat treatment operation, silicon dioxide is not distilled off, but remains in uranium oxide powders. In addition, the disadvantages of ion-exchange sorption include small capacity, swelling, high cost of sorbents and low process speed compared to liquid extraction.
There is a method of processing a concentrate containing 80% of uranium oxide, dissolving in 3M nitric acid with the addition of phosphoric acid (to precipitate thorium) [2]. The resulting pulp contains less than 1% silicon dioxide, 2M nitric acid and about 375 g / l of uranium. From the dissolution unit, the pulp without filtration is pumped to the extraction operation. The extraction is carried out with a 25% solution of tributyl phosphate (TBP) with a ratio of aqueous and organic phases equal to 1: 4. After contacting, saturated organic matter is fed for re-extraction and then, using ADU technology, uranium dioxide powder is obtained. The disadvantages of this method are: the supply with solutions during transfer to the extraction of a part of silicon in the form of a gel, the formation of interphase formations (MFOs) during extraction, a large loss of extractant due to the formation of MFOs, clogging of the apparatus cavities in cases of a certain combination of silicon with other related impurities up to until the extraction process is completely stopped. In addition, the use of nitric acid concentrate ZM (189 g / l) in the dissolution operation leads to an increase in the corrosive effect of the solutions on the equipment.
Closest to the proposed invention is a method of processing a concentrate of natural uranium [3], in which a concentrate containing more than 1% silicon is dissolved in 3 ÷ 5 M nitric acid. The resulting solution containing 250 ÷ 400 g / l of uranium is filtered without settling, separated from silicic acid in a filter press and sent for extraction. The extraction is carried out with 15 ÷ 40% TBP solution. After the contact of the phases is completed, the organics containing 120 g / l of uranium (when using a 40% TBP solution) are sent for re-extraction and are processed into known uranium dioxide using known technology. The disadvantages of the method are: a high consumption of nitric acid for leaching of 0.79 kg / kg of uranium, a decrease in the corrosion resistance of the equipment and the service life of the filter cloth when working with highly acidic solutions, low productivity of the filtration process due to the rapid decrease in the filtration rate due to particles blocking the pores of the filter cloth silica gel, inefficient use of extractant. In the extraction operation at a concentration of 190 ÷ 300 g / l in the solution of nitric acid, competitive extraction between uranyl nitrate and nitric acid is observed, which leads to a decrease in the capacity of TBP and, as a result, to a decrease in the saturation of TBP with uranium. So, for example, in this method, the maximum saturation of organics is 120 g / l in 40% TBP solution, or 68.2% of the theoretical.
This method is taken as a prototype. These disadvantages are eliminated by the proposed method.
The essence of the invention lies in the fact that, in contrast to the known method of processing a chemical concentrate by dissolving it in 3 M nitric acid, separating silicic acid by filtration on a filter press, followed by extraction purification, reextraction, precipitation of ammonium polyuranate, and heat treatment to obtain uranium oxides, dissolving CCPI lead in a lower concentration of nitric acid while maintaining a certain predetermined excess nitric acid content in the solution and holding the solution before filtering by traction.
The objective of the present invention is to eliminate the negative effects of silicon on the process of filtration and extraction and the production of uranium oxides of nuclear purity.
The problem is solved by conducting HKPU treatment with a solution of 1.0 ÷ 1.5 M nitric acid with maintaining acidity during the dissolution process of 0.3 ÷ 1.0 M, holding the solution for 4 ÷ 6 hours to coagulate and precipitate silicic acid, and separate it from a uranium-containing solution.
Used in the proposed method, the concentration of nitric acid provides the most complete process of polymerization of silicic acid into sol, its agglomeration and precipitation into a dense precipitate in the form of a gel. A concentration of nitric acid of less than 0.3 M is not enough for gelation, in addition, uranium losses increase as a result of its incomplete transition to solution. When the concentration of nitric acid is more than 1 M, the transition of silicon into the solution increases, the corrosion of the equipment increases, and the service life of the filter sheets decreases.
A settling time of less than 4 hours is not enough for complete precipitation of silicic acid, the solution settles completely in 6 hours, an increase in the settling time of more than 6 hours is impractical due to a decrease in processing productivity.
From the solution obtained by the proposed method, after extraction purification from impurities by known technology, uranium oxides of nuclear purity are obtained.
According to the proposed method, the consumption of nitric acid for the dissolution of HKPU is 0.26 kg / kg of uranium, the operating time of the equipment used and the filter sheets are increased.
