Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of metallurgy, in particular to the processing of metal chips, and can be used in the manufacture of briquettes from chips of titanium and its alloys.
№19).A known method of briquetting metal chips, namely, that the chips are crushed to obtain chip elements of two fractions with a length of 30-40 mm and 70-80 mm, they are mixed in a weight ratio of 1: 1-1: 4, they are washed in a hot aqueous solution of Lavomide and drying with hot air, then compacted into briquettes (ed. certificate of the USSR No. 1734948, class B 22 F 3/02, publ. 1992, bull. No. 19).
Practice has shown that the briquettes obtained by this method have an unstable quality, due to the arbitrary choice of the drying temperature. In addition, the selected lengths of the chip elements and their weight ratio do not provide the necessary adhesion, in particular in the manufacture of briquettes from titanium and its alloys, the chips of which have high mechanical strength.
20.03.2000. The closest analogue to the claimed invention is a method of briquetting metal chips, including crushing it to obtain two fractions of chip elements of different lengths, mixing, washing, drying and sealing in the mold, while drying is carried out at a temperature of 180-220 ° C (patent RF №2146719, class С 22 В 1/248, publ. 03.20.2000. Bull. №8) - prototype.
The disadvantage of this method is that mixing the chip elements in the weight ratio given in the prototype does not provide the necessary strength of the manufactured briquettes with a diameter of more than 200 mm from titanium chips and titanium alloys, and preliminary drying of the chips at a temperature of 180-220 ° C increases the gas saturation of the surface of the titanium chips and its alloys, which is unacceptable.
The problem to which this invention is directed, is to obtain briquettes from titanium chips of the necessary strength, stable quality and uniform density over the cross section.
The problem is solved in that in the method of briquetting metal chips, comprising crushing chips to obtain two fractions of chip elements of different lengths, mixing, washing, drying and sealing into a mold according to the invention when briquetting chips of titanium and its alloys, the lengths of the chip elements are chosen equal 10-30 mm and 50-90 mm, they are mixed in a weight ratio of 1: 1-3: 1, respectively, drying is carried out at a temperature of 105-110 ° C, and the seal is carried out in a mold heated to a temperature of 180-300 ° C .
In preparation for briquetting chips of titanium and its alloys from the surface of the chip, not only coolant and dirt should be removed, but also the oxidation products (oxide films) that are formed on the surface of the chip during cutting to a specified size. To do this, titanium shavings are subjected to short-term etching ("clarification") in aqueous solutions of mineral acids, while degreasing occurs simultaneously.
Subsequent drying of such chips at a temperature of 180-220 ° C (according to the prototype) can lead to repeated gas saturation and oxidation.
To completely remove moisture, it is enough to heat the chips to a temperature slightly above the boiling point of water - up to 105-110 ° С.
Compaction of the chips in the mold heated to 180-300 ° C, allows to reduce the coefficient of friction of the chips on the wall of the mold and provides a uniformly dense section of the briquette.
When the mold temperature is less than 180 ° C, the friction force of the chips against the tool walls sharply increases - the briquettes have tears, and at a temperature above 300 ° C the strength of the briquettes does not change and they have a stable quality, therefore heating above 300 ° C is impractical. The optimum temperature range for heating the mold is 180-300 ° C.
An example of the method of briquetting.
2.Gr5 titanium alloy chips were crushed to obtain two chip fractions 10-30 mm and 50-90 mm long, mixed in a weight ratio of 1: 1, this composition was washed in a solution of 20% H 2 SO 4 + 1.5% HF at a temperature of 60 ° C, then in hot water at a temperature of 90 ° C, after which the composition was dried with hot air at a temperature of 110 ° C and the operation of compaction of the prepared chip composition into briquettes with a diameter of 270 mm, a height of 160 mm was carried out by batch pressing into a continuous conical mold heated up to 300 ° C on a horizontal hydraulic press with a force of 5000 tons . The specific pressing pressure is 6.5 t / cm 2 .
Similarly, briquettes were made from chip compositions taken in other weight ratios according to the parameters given in the proposed method, as well as according to the prototite method.
The test results are shown in the table, which shows the influence of the choice of lengths of the chip elements of the two fractions and their ratio, as well as the temperature of the mold on the strength characteristics of the briquettes.

The table shows that the selected lengths of the chip elements of the two fractions and their ratio, as well as the pressing temperature, provide a low percentage of crumbling, which leads to an increase in the stability and quality of briquettes, as well as a uniform density over the cross section of the briquette. Briquettes made according to the parameters of the prototype method had a high percentage of crumbling and uneven density and strength.
