Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of production of foam, in particular polyethylene foam, which can be used in engineering and household as a heat-insulating and structural material.
A known composition based on polyethylene containing organosilicon unsaturated compounds as a crosslinking agent and a small amount of dicumyl peroxide as an initiator of the crosslinking reaction (Plastics 3.1998 g).
The disadvantage of this composition is the presence of dicumyl peroxide, which makes the composition toxic and the absence of a blowing agent for foaming.
When polyethylene and unsaturated silicon are introduced into the composition, the organic blowing agent compound (azodicarbonamide) decreases the degree of crosslinking and the gas number of the porophore.
Apparently, the high activity of the porophore radicals prevents crosslinking during the opening of the double bond of the silicon of the organic compound.
In addition, porosophore decomposition activators must be introduced into the composition to control its decomposition temperature.
1976 г.). A known composition based on polyethylene containing azodicarbonamide as a blowing agent and dicumyl peroxide as a crosslinking agent. To coordinate the decomposition temperatures of the crosslinking and foaming agents, it contains an activating system (a.s. 526631 publ. 1976).
The disadvantage of this composition is the toxicity of the decomposition products of dicumyl peroxide (in particular, acetophenone is released), which limits the scope of the foam, as well as low strength and shape stability.
The problem solved by the invention is to reduce the toxicity of the composition for producing polyethylene foam while increasing the strength characteristics of the foam.
This object is achieved in that the composition containing polyethylene, azodicarbonamide and stearin additionally contains a limiting organosilicon compound - tetraethoxysilane in the following ratio, wt.
High Pressure Polyethylene - 100
Stearin - 1.0
Azodicarbonamide - 1.0 - 7.0
Tetraethoxysilane - 0.5 - 5.0
Introduced in polyethylene tetraethoxysilane, is not a crosslinking agent in the temperature range from 20 o C to 250 o With neither by itself nor in the presence of dicumyl peroxide. In the latter case, crosslinking is observed, the value of which clearly corresponds to the amount of peroxide.
When azodicarbonamide is introduced into a composition containing tetraethoxysilane, azodicarbonamide crosslinkes polyethylene at temperatures above the decomposition temperatures of ADCA.
The study of this composition by DTA showed that a clear peak of decomposition of azodicarbonamide in the presence of tetraethoxysilane expands, the overall thermal effect increases, which indicates additional processes; occurring in the system.
Examination of samples on gel fractions and their boiling point in toluene shows the presence of an insoluble part (up to 50%).
38-402-55-84).The following components were used to prepare the compositions:
high pressure polyethylene (GOST 1.6.337-77),
azodicarbonamide (TU 6-03-408-80),
tetraethoxysilane (TU 6-02-805-78),
dicumyl peroxide (TU 38-402-55-84).
The composition is prepared by mixing on rollers at a temperature of 110 ± 5 o C for 15-20 minutes to obtain a homogeneous mass. Samples were cut from sheets obtained on rollers, which were either heated in a salt bath at a temperature of 170 o C for 30 minutes (free foaming), or placed in a closed mold, which was heated in a salt bath for 60 minutes (foaming in a form) also at 170 o C.
Samples obtained by free foaming determined the degree of crosslinking (the amount of insoluble gel fractions after boiling the sample in toluene for at least 10 hours) and apparent density (according to GOST 409-77).
The samples obtained by foaming in the form, set the apparent density, and determined some physical and mechanical properties.

The properties obtained from these sample compositions are presented in the table.
As can be seen from the table, crosslinking of polyethylene is observed only in the joint presence of tetraethoxysilane and azodicarbonamide. When comparing the properties of foamed samples known and proposed, it is seen that in the case of an approximately equal degree of crosslinking, the strength of the samples from the proposed compositions is noticeably higher. In this case, no harmful substances are released.
