Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of metallurgy, in particular to the production of anti-friction cast iron with spherical graphite.
A known method of producing cast iron with spherical graphite [1], including smelting cast iron, processing its melt with a complex modifier in the form of a mixture of materials containing magnesium, ferrosilicon, fluorspar and iron oxide in the following ratio, wt.%:
Magnesium - 19-35
Ferrosilicon - 15-20
Fluorspar - 20-60
Iron Oxide - 5-26
The amount of complex modifier introduced is 0.1-0.5% by weight of the treated cast iron.
The disadvantages of this method include a significant pyroelectric effect upon modification, poor absorption of magnesium and the need for heat treatment of castings in order to eliminate bleached cast iron.
Closest to the proposed method is [2], comprising smelting cast iron containing 3.5-4% carbon, 1-1.5% silicon and up to 0.03% sulfur, and processing the molten iron in a ladle by introducing a modifying mixture containing FSMg-5 ligature, ferrosilicon and steel wastes, and the ligature is crushed to a fraction of less than 1 mm.
The disadvantages of this method are the significant pyroeffect, poor absorption of magnesium from the ligature (less than 30%), very severe restriction of the sulfur content in smelted cast iron (up to 0.03%) and the unfavorable structure of cast iron in castings (insufficient stability of graphite spheroidization, a large amount of ferrite in the structure castings with a cross section of 30 mm or more, a significant amount of cementite and ledeburite in thin-walled castings).
The objective of the invention is to reduce the pyroelectric effect upon modification, increase the degree of absorption of magnesium, provide the possibility of using smelted cast iron with a high sulfur content, and improve the structure of cast iron in castings.
EFFECT: increased stability of the modification process and stabilization of hardness of cast iron in castings.
This is achieved by the fact that in a method involving the smelting of cast iron and the processing of its melt in a casting ladle with a modifying mixture of components containing crushed ligature and steel wastes, cast iron contains up to 0.7% manganese, up to 0.05% chromium and up to 0.08 % sulfur, and silicobarium, tin, copper waste, cast-iron waste and fluorspar are additionally added to the composition of the modifying mixture in the following ratio of components, wt.%:
Ligature - 33-37
Silicobarium - 4.5-6.0
Tin - 1.8-2.2
Copper waste - 20-25
Fluorspar - 10-12
Steel and Cast Iron Waste - Other [3]
moreover, the total amount of the mixture is 4.5-6% by weight of cast iron, and the ligature contains silicon, magnesium, calcium, rare-earth metals, copper, aluminum and iron in the following ratio, wt.%:
Silicon - 18-32
Magnesium - 4-9
Calcium - 3-8
REM - 3.5-10
Copper - 27-50
Aluminum - 1-3
Iron - Other [3]
The ligature is crushed to a fraction of less than 3 mm.
Changes in the chemical composition of smelted cast iron have been introduced in order to make it possible to use cheaper cast iron with a high sulfur content, improve the structure and stabilize the hardness of cast iron. Since chromium is a strong carbide forming element, its content is limited to 0.05%. In a larger amount, chromium causes a significant bleaching of cast iron, especially in thin-walled castings. Manganese is also an element that contributes to the bleaching of cast iron, but to a much lesser extent than chromium. Its content is limited to 0.7%, since in such quantities it promotes perliteration of the structure, which is very important for anti-friction cast iron.
Sulfur content in cast iron is 0.08% limited. This is several times larger than in the prototype (up to 0.03%), which greatly facilitates and reduces the cost of producing cast iron. The amount and composition of the modifying mixture and ligatures are designed to remove 0.06-0.07% sulfur from liquid cast iron during processing, which ensures stable production of spherical graphite in cast iron.
The composition of the mixture is selected based on the following considerations.
Considering that copper in cast iron is a perlitizer and graphitizer of the structure, the ligature with copper according to the patent [3] was used and copper was additionally introduced into the mixture in order to ensure production of antifriction cast iron with pearlite structure in the absence of bleaching even in thin-walled castings. Copper waste used in the mixture together with steel and cast iron waste also serves to load the ligature in order to prevent its emergence and interaction with atmospheric oxygen. At the same time, it is preferable to use cast iron waste to a greater extent than steel waste, since they are more easily melted and are closer in chemical composition to smelted cast iron.
Tin is used as part of a mixture for the microalloying of cast iron in order to stably obtain a pearlite structure in castings of various sections.
Silicobarium was introduced into the composition of the mixture in order to more thoroughly clean cast iron from harmful impurities and to eliminate bleached cast iron in thin-walled castings.
Feldspar is used in a crushed state in the form of a mixture with crushed ligature in order to improve the absorption of ligature with molten iron and reduce the pyroelectric effect.
Complex processing of molten iron is carried out in a casting ladle at a temperature of 1400-1440 o С, and the mixture is laid on the bottom of the ladle in layers in the form of a “sandwich” (a mixture of ligature and fluorspar, then silicobarium and tin, and loading from above with steel, cast iron and copper waste) .
Cast iron was smelted in various units: in induction crucible furnaces with a capacity of 50, 150 and 500 kg and an electric arc furnace with a capacity of 1500 kg with acid lining. They used a mixture consisting of foundry and pig iron, steel and cast iron waste, electrode battle, ferroalloys and waste electrical copper. Modification was carried out in casting ladles of various capacities (from 50 to 1500 kg, depending on the amount of cast iron smelted). The process of producing cast iron was evaluated by the intensity of the pyroelectric effect, the degree of assimilation of magnesium, the hardness of cast iron, and the characteristics of its structure (degree of spheroidization of graphite, degree of perlitization of the structure, and the amount of free cementite and ledeburite in it) in standard wedge samples 30 mm thick, cast in dry sand-clay molds . For each option, 2-3 samples were poured at different periods of casting.
3. Options for smelting cast iron and its ladle processing are given in table 1 in comparison with the prototype method. The chemical composition of smelted cast irons for all options is given in Table 2, and the characteristics of the processes are shown in Table 3.
It can be seen that the proposed method provides significantly more stable results compared to the prototype with a lower pyroeffect, a higher degree of absorption of magnesium and a degree of spheroidization of graphite, as well as better characteristics of the structure of cast iron in castings.
