Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of engineering geology, in particular to the determination of the physical properties of frozen soils, which serve as the basis and environment for interaction with structures in industrial and civil construction.
Despite the wide and diverse studies of issues related to the determination of the physical properties of frozen soils, few simple and reliable (from the point of view of the objectivity of various coefficients) methods that allow you to quickly determine physical properties in the field with sufficient accuracy.
56).A known method of determining the density of frozen soil by hydrostatic weighing of a sample on a technical scale in a vessel with water on a stand. The description of the method is given in the instructions "Materials on laboratory studies of frozen soils",
(See "Guidelines for the determination of the physicomechanical and thermophysical characteristics of frozen and thawing soils." GOSSTROY USSR, Moscow, 1970, p. 56).
The disadvantages of the methods include the ability to determine only one property - the density of the soil.
A device for determining the physical properties of solids is known, consisting of two vessels, the internal of which with a volumetric liquid, is mounted in an external containing liquid, the first being able to vertically move along the guides inside the second vessel. Both vessels are transparent and equipped with spiral scales. A sample fixture is placed in the inner vessel. The outer vessel is mounted on a special stand (see ed. St. USSR 151095 according to class G 01
This device has a number of disadvantages, which include certain difficulties when working in the field, the need to purchase, transport and use volumetric liquids, the complexity of manufacturing vessels and applying spiral scales, calibration of the device. The device allows you to determine in the laboratory only one property of frozen soils - the density of frozen soil.
The proposed technical solution allows you to simply and reliably determine the physical properties (characteristics according to SNiP II-18-76) of frozen soils both in field and in stationary conditions.
This is achieved by a method of determining the physical properties of frozen soil, including sampling a soil, weighing it, filling a vessel with water of known volume - V 1 , placing a soil sample in a vessel with water and determining the volume of water with an undisturbed addition sample - V 2 , determining the sample volume V ar by the difference between the volumes of water with sample V 2 and water in a vessel without sample V 1 , by determining the density of frozen soil, characterized in that after the thawing of the sample, the volume of water with melted soil is determined - V 3 , controlling the water temperature in the vessel and adjusting this volume. The method is carried out using the device.
A device for measuring sample volumes is made in the form of two cylinders. The inner cylinder with a rubber seal on the upper edge is rigidly fixed to the horizontal base, and the outer cylinder, equipped with a mesh sample capsule placed inside it and a transparent measuring tube from the outside, is lowered from above to the inside. The essence of the proposed technical solution is illustrated by the drawing, which shows the proposed device.
9. A device for determining the volume of frozen and thawed soil includes a measuring vessel made of an
The method for determining the physical properties of frozen soils by the proposed device includes the following operations:
A sample of the frozen frozen soil is weighed. Water is poured into the
After the sample of frozen soil placed in the device melts, which occurs within 5-10 minutes, and collapses, the contents of the cylinder are mixed to remove trapped air and the volume of water with the melted soil V 3 cm 3 is measured. During the experiment, the temperature of the water in the vessel is controlled and its volume is adjusted. Correction is based on the recommendations of the "Handbook of Elementary Physics". N.I. Koshkin, M.G. Shirkevich, publishing house "Science", Moscow, 1982, p. 70. The value of the volume correction for lowering the water temperature is recommended to be calculated by the reference book according to table 42. The same reference guide recommends determining the correction experimentally. The experimental correction is as follows. After the volume mark V 3 is fixed, the water in the device with the thawed soil is heated to the initial temperature, which was in the device before the immersion of the frozen soil sample. By the difference in the marks in the measuring glass tube is the volume, which is divided by the value of the temperature decrease (number of degrees) to determine the volume correction value when the water temperature is reduced by 1 (one) degree. For each of the other samples, the magnitude of the volume change by 1 degree is multiplied by the value of the decrease in temperature and this correction is subtracted from the volume of melted ice (V 2 -V 3 ). After that, the volume of ice V l contained in the soil is determined as follows. During the phase transition of ice into water, its volume decreases by the amount of V l -V in = εV in = V 2 -V 3 , where V l is the volume of ice contained in the soil, V in is the volume of water of melted ice, ε is the phase coefficient transition of ice into water.
Under different conditions of freezing, the soil contains various types of ice, for example, milky white, transparent, etc., which have an uneven density at the same temperature, so a correction of the coefficient is necessary. For this purpose, samples are taken without gangue ice inclusions and with the same method, immersing the device in an ice measured volume V 1 cm 3, V 2 and V 3 cm 3 cm 3, on which the equality in the V L -V = εV in = V 2- V 3 , the coefficient ε is determined taking into account the physical properties of ice under specific freezing conditions or a specific engineering-geological element.
The volume of ice contained in the soil is found from the above equality V l = V in (1 + ε), and the volume of water from the melted ice in the sample is found from the same equality
then the volume of ice
After that, calculate:
The total moisture content of frozen soil is found from the ratio of the weight of all types of water to the weight of the skeleton of the soil (in accordance with the definition of the formula for this characteristic according to SNiP II-18-76, Publishing House Stroyizdat, M., 1977)
where P SC = P arr -P in .
Рск=Робр-Рв, где Pв = Vв•ρв, где ρв - плотность воды при данной to.The weight of the particles of the skeleton of the soil is determined as follows:
P ck = P arr -P in , where P in = V in • ρ in , where ρ in - the density of water at a given t o .
Total humidity on the recommendation of N.A. Tsytovich in the book "Mechanics of Frozen Soils" (Publishing House Higher School, M., 1973) is determined from the ratio
The total ice content of frozen soil (in accordance with SNiP II-18-76, Publishing House Stroyizdat, M., 1977), determined by the ratio of the volume of ice contained in it to the volume of frozen soil, is found from

The table shows the results of the determination of indicators of the physical properties of frozen moraine loams on the dam of the upper basin of the Zagorsk PSP, obtained in parallel with the definitions in accordance with GOST. The last column of the table shows the values of the total humidity determined directly in accordance with GOST. The results of determining the humidity in the laboratory are close to the results obtained by the proposed method.
Existing methods for characterizing the physical properties of frozen soils are point-like in nature and depend on which part of the monolith the sample is taken from. The advantages of the proposed method are that the characteristics of physical properties are determined easier, faster and more reliable, because they are obtained for the entire monolith, and not for its part, which makes it possible to evaluate the properties of the array with greater reliability.
The practice of working with permafrost in the field and in the laboratory shows that it is very difficult to manually measure the volume of ice inclusions in both samples and workings due to the fact that these inclusions are not sustained in terms of power and strike. The proposed device and method allows in a short time to obtain the main characteristics of frozen soils with a high degree of accuracy both in the field and in the laboratory.
