Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the electrical industry and can be used in the manufacture of electrodes for alkaline batteries.
Known methods for the manufacture of electrode tape by filling a highly porous electrode base with a paste-like active mass [1 - application of Germany 4040017, N 01 M 4/28, publ. 06/17/92, 2 - Japanese application 2288067, H 01 M 4/26, publ. 11.28.90, 3 - Japanese application 1163965, H 01 M 4/26, publ. 06/28/89] with continuous transmission of a highly porous electrode base through a container with an active mass of pasty consistency and its subsequent compression in rolls to a predetermined thickness.
A disadvantage of the known methods is the low level of filling of the highly porous electrode base with the active mass, the fluctuation of its quantity along the length of the electrode tape and, as a result, the low electric capacity of the electrodes.
As a prototype, a method was selected for filling the pore volume of a highly porous electrode base in the form of a tape with a paste-like active mass [4 - Japanese Patent 2707400, priority 16.09.93, H 01 M 4/26], characterized in that the highly porous electrode base formed of an electrically conductive material, continuously passed through a container filled with active mass (suspensions). Then, a highly porous electrode base coated with a layer of active mass is passed through a slot (die) located above the container, dried and calibrated in rolls to a predetermined thickness of the electrode tape.
The disadvantage of this method, experiments have shown, is the ineffective and uneven filling of the highly porous electrode base with an active mass and the resulting different density along the length of the resulting electrode tape, which causes a reduced level of electrochemical capacitance of the electrodes and its unsatisfactory reproducibility.
The reason for this is that when a highly porous electrode base moves through the paste volume, the active mass is evenly distributed on the surface of the highly porous electrode base and only a small fraction of the active mass falls into the volume of its internal pores, since there are no directed forces (except for the hydrostatic pressure of the column active mass) promoting particles of the active mass into the volume of internal pores of various diameters of the highly porous electrode base, filled with the same air.
The objective of the proposed method for the manufacture of electrode strip is to create a method that allows more efficiently and uniformly fill the active mass of the internal pore volume of the highly porous electrode base in the form of a tape and thereby provide an increase in the electric capacity of the electrodes.
The solution to this problem is achieved by the fact that in the known method of manufacturing an electrode tape, including continuous transmission of the electrode tape base formed from an electrically conductive material through a container filled with active mass in the form of a suspension, then through a die, a drying device and subsequent calibration in rolls, according to the claimed technical solution, the electrode tape-base, moving in the volume of the active mass, additionally passes between two brushes. Brushes, the rotation axis of which are in the same plane, make a reciprocating motion towards each other, for example, due to the crank mechanisms driven by an electric motor. A similar nature of the movement of the brushes provides the introduction of particles of the active mass into the pore volume of the base.
The increase in the efficiency of filling the pores of the highly porous electrode base tape in the proposed method is determined by the appearance of additional forces arising when the electrode base tape is pulled between the brushes and organizing the introduction of active mass particles into the pore volume of the base. A particularly important point is the reciprocating motion of the brushes towards each other, since this interaction of the brushes determines a sequential and alternating change in the direction of filling with the active mass of the pores and removal of the remaining air from them.
The drawing shows a diagram of a method for manufacturing an electrode tape, where 1 is a bath with an active mass, 2 is an active mass, 3 is a left and right brush, 4 is a highly porous electrode base tape, 5 is a guide roller, 6 is an opening for input of a base tape with a seal, 7 — a die or device for removing excess active mass from the surface of the base electrode strip; dryer, pulling and calibrating rolls not indicated.
The following is a description of an example of a specific implementation of the method of manufacturing an electrode strip according to the invention.
A highly porous electrode base tape 4 rolled up on a roll of foam nickel 1.25 mm thick, 45 mm wide and 95% porosity passes through the guide roller 5 and enters the bath 1 with active mass 2 through the opening with seal 6, then passes between the left and right brushes 3, making a reciprocating motion towards each other, and goes up to the device to remove excess active mass 7, a drying device and calibrating rolls (not shown). Calibration of the electrode strip is carried out to a thickness of 0.8 mm. As the active mass 2 was used a thoroughly mixed mixture of the composition: 100 wt. including Nickel hydroxide, 5 wt. including fluoroplastic grade 4D in the form of a concentrated (60%) aqueous stabilized suspension.
3.The amount of active mass introduced was 2.5 g / cm 3 , and the electrochemical capacity of the electrodes made from the resulting electrode tape was 0.54 A • h / cm 3 .
3.To compare the known methods and the claimed technical solution, an electrode strip was made according to the known method described in the prototype. In this case, an active mass of identical composition and a highly porous electrode tape-base of the same material were used. As a result, the gain of the active mass was 1.72 g / cm 3 and the electrochemical capacity of the electrodes made from the obtained electrode tape was 0.37 A • h / cm 3 .
From the above data it can be seen that the implementation of the inventive method for manufacturing an electrode tape really provides the possibility of introducing more active mass into a highly porous electrode base tape, which is due to more uniform, especially in thickness of the tape, filling the pore volume of the electrode base tape with the active mass at processing its surface with brushes that make oscillating movements. In addition, the analysis of thin sections of the electrodes also showed that the inventive method of manufacturing an electrode strip in comparison with known methods provides a greater completeness of filling the electrode strip base with an active mass.
The claimed technical solution can be effectively used in the manufacture of positive and negative non-sintered electrodes based on highly porous metal electrode bases in the form of a tape using various pasty masses (suspensions) for any type of alkaline batteries.
The uniform distribution of the particles of the active mass in the pore volume allows us to create the most optimal electrode structure with a more distributed and averaged internal current load, which, in addition to increasing the electrochemical capacity, leads to an increase in the resource of such electrodes.
