Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of nuclear engineering, namely to control the tightness of the claddings (CGO) of fuel elements, and can be used in nuclear power plants (NPPs) with an aqueous coolant.
A known method of KGO fuel rods, which consists in introducing certain nuclides, for example, isotopes, inert gases, under the cladding of the fuel rods and registering these nuclides in the NPP technological media in case of depressurization of the cladding of the fuel rod / 1 /. The main disadvantage of this method is associated with a significant complication of the manufacturing technology of fuel elements, which is economically unjustified. In addition, the method can be used only for a certain type of fuel elements having a gas volume under the cladding.
The classical (radiometric) method of KGO fuel elements is known, based on measuring the activity of long-lived and short-lived (reference) fission products in the coolant of a working reactor, determining the constant output of reference nuclides from the coolant, and recording leakage of fuel claddings by comparing the activity of reference nuclides / 2 /. This method is the closest to the claimed and is its prototype. The main disadvantage of the prototype is that there is a fundamental limit to its performance (sensitivity), determined by the background activity of the reference nuclides due to contamination of the coolant and (or) the surfaces of the primary equipment with fissile material. The disadvantage of the prototype also lies in the need to measure the activity of several nuclides, which complicates the control and reduces its reliability due to the addition of measurement errors.
The problem solved in this invention is to achieve any given sensitivity and increase the reliability of control.
A1 = Aф + A2, (1)
где A1 - активность нуклида в теплоносителе;
The formalized solution of the problem is based on the following provisions. In the general case, the specific activity (concentration) of the reference nuclide - the fission product in the coolant of a nuclear reactor - is the sum of the components
A 1 = A f + A 2 , (1)
where A 1 is the activity of the nuclide in the coolant;
A f - background component of activity; A 2 - the activity of the nuclide entering the coolant from the fuel rod.
A2 ≥ Aф. (2)
Registration of an untight fuel rod is possible if and only if
A 2 ≥ A f . (2)
We can assume that the value of A 2 is a given limit of sensitivity of the radiometric method and its minimum value is determined by a single defect in a fuel rod. The process of formation of a single defect is a random variable that depends on many factors, including the design of the fuel rod. The accumulated experience of research on nuclear power plants with a water coolant indicates that the minimum average unit defect of a fuel element leads to an increase in the activity of fission products in the coolant of a working reactor by the value A 2 = (10 -9 - 10 -8 ) Ku / kg.
Aф = Aф1 + Aф2 + Aф3,
где Aф1 - активность нуклида за счет деления атомов, находящихся в теплоносителе и (или) на поверхности оборудования;
Aф2 - активность нуклида, поступающего с фильтра очистки теплоносителя;
In the general case, the background component of the activity of fission products in the coolant is the sum of the components
A f = A f1 + A f2 + A f3 ,
where A f1 is the activity of the nuclide due to the fission of atoms in the coolant and (or) on the surface of the equipment;
A f2 - the activity of the nuclide coming from the filter cleaning the coolant;
A f3 - activity due to the decay of the precursors in the chain of radioactive transformations, including those located on the surface of the equipment.
(2).The minimum level of background activity in the coolant is observed if the amount of open fissile material in the circuit is determined by the technological contamination of the cladding of the fuel rods in the manufacturing process. For example, at 235-U this value is m (235-U) 10 -4 g and the specific activity of the fission product in the coolant is in the range A f1 = 10 -7 - 10 -6 Ku / kg ("clean" reactor loop). In the case of contamination of the circuit with the fuel composition from previous nuclear power plant campaigns with leaking fuel rods, the value of m (235-U), and therefore, A ph1, increase by several, usually by 2-3 orders of magnitude (dirty reactor loop). Thus, even in the conditions of a “clean” circuit, registration of a single minimal defect, achievement of a given sensitivity of the method is practically impossible without the use of special control regulations, which should include a set of special operations (features) that make it possible to fulfill condition (2).
A1(P1) Aф1(P2) ≅ A2 (5)
The essence of the invention lies in the fact that due to the choice of a reference nuclide with the required physicochemical characteristics and a certain algorithm for reducing the power of the reactor, the background activity is output on the heat-treatment filter until a time when the residual background level is less than the specified sensitivity determined by the rate of arrival of the reference nuclide from the fuel rod. By way of illustration in FIG. Figure 1 shows a qualitative picture of the process of changes in the coolant components A f1 and A 2 after reducing the initial power P 1 to the final P 2 under the condition A 2 >> A f2 + A f3 . At the time interval [t 1 ; t 2 ], the condition ( 2). In the case of P 2 = 0, t 1 will shift to the region of large times, since A 2 will decrease by about an order of magnitude due to cooling of the fuel. However, after reaching the inequality A 2 >> A ф1, it remains on the subsequent time interval up to t 2 → ∞.
To implement the process, it is necessary to fulfill certain requirements for the reference nuclide. Firstly, it should be effectively removed from the coolant on the cleaning filter, i.e. the filter cleaning constant (Ф) should be much larger than the decay constant of the nuclide. Therefore, short-lived fission products, Kr, Xe nuclides, for which Ф = 0, and also nuclides sorbed on surfaces cannot be used as a reference nuclide. In the latter case, an additional source A f3 appears in the circuit due to the subsequent desorption of the nuclide from a surface with a time dependence A f3 ~ e -λt . Secondly, the life time (half-life) of the reference nuclide should be much less than the retention time of the nuclide of this element (t f ) on the filter for cleaning the coolant. This requirement follows from the inequality A φ2 <A 2 , or which is equivalent to λt ф ≫ 1 or t ф >> T 1/2 . In practice, the retention time t f on the ion-exchange filter of impurities present in the coolant in ionic form is about a thousand hours. The life time of the reference nuclide is determined by the ratio A 2 / A 1 from the expression
and usually should not exceed 1-10 days. Therefore, in particular, long-lived isotopes of iodine and cesium cannot be used as reference nuclides. Finally, to exclude the influence of the physicochemical properties of the parent nuclides on the background value of the reference nuclide in the coolant, the lifetime of the reference nuclide should significantly exceed the lifetime of the precursors in the chains of radioactive transformations of fission products. For this reason, in particular, 132-I having the long-lived 132-Te precursor cannot be used as a reference nuclide. From the dependence of FIG. 1 also follows certain requirements for changing the operating mode of the installation to achieve a given sensitivity A 2 . The first of them is associated with a decrease in the initial power level P 1 , which should lead to the fulfillment of the condition
A 1 (P 1 ) A f1 (P 2 ) ≅ A 2 (5)
at the final power level P 2 . Since A 1 is directly proportional to power, this condition is satisfied when
including P 2 = 0. Since the activity of a nuclide in a fuel element is proportional to the power and operating time of the reactor, to achieve maximum A 2 , for a given fuel element leakage, the initial power of the reactor should be close to the nominal, and the operating time at this power level is (3-5) life time of the reference nuclide. The second requirement is the duration (t 1 ) of operation at the final power level with the connected coolant filter, after which condition (5) is realized. This time can be found from the relation
Because the
Thus, in comparison with the known method, the proposed method, with the correct choice of the reference nuclide and the operating mode of the nuclear power plant, ensures the achievement of any given sensitivity and increases the reliability.
1 - газы-изотопы Kr, Xe, которые не могут быть реперными, поскольку Ф 0;
2 - нуклиды Br, Rb, I, Cs - потенциальные реперные нуклиды, т.к. для них Ф ≠ 0 и отсутствует сорбция на поверхностях;
3 - нуклиды Sn, Ba, Te, Ce, Mo, Ru и т. The practical implementation of this method does not cause difficulties, as evidenced by the conduct of KGO fuel rods of a nuclear reactor with ammonia water-chemical regime (water chemistry) of the coolant. Under these conditions, all fission products can be conditionally divided into three groups:
1 - gases-isotopes Kr, Xe, which cannot be reference, since
2 - nuclides Br, Rb, I, Cs - potential reference nuclides, because for them Φ ≠ 0 and there is no sorption on the surfaces;
3 - nuclides of Sn, Ba, Te, Ce, Mo, Ru, etc., for which the deposition constant on the surfaces is significant (0 ≥ 3 h -1 >> Ф), therefore they also cannot be used as reference nuclides .
A2.With real values of the constants Ф = 0.5 h -1 , t ф = 10 3 h, the group of potential reference nuclides is reduced to three iodine isotopes - 131, 133, 135-I and their further choice is determined by the level of background activity of the nuclide in the coolant and a predetermined limit sensitivity A 2 .
In FIG. Figure 2 shows the calculated and experimental dependences of the change in the activity of potential reference nuclides in the coolant in the event of a reactor shutdown (P 2 = 0) with a power of P = 30% P with a nominal and predetermined control sensitivity of A 2 = 10 -10 Ku / kg of the located reactor. Additionally, figure 2 shows the limits of detection of leakage of fuel rods (A n ) in a known manner, assuming that the error in measuring the activity of the
