Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a technology for processing a mixture of uranium hexafluoride with hydrogen fluoride.
Hydrogen fluoride is the most common impurity in uranium hexafluoride, which interferes with its further use. Therefore, the need to process mixtures containing these components arises at various stages of the technology for the production and use of uranium hexafluoride, and the solution to this problem is aimed both at neutralizing waste gases and at the disposal of valuable substances - uranium hexafluoride and hydrogen fluoride.
A known group of methods for processing mixtures containing uranium hexafluoride and hydrogen fluoride, based on the principles of hydrometallurgy, i.e. on the hydrolytic cleavage of uranium hexafluoride with water or aqueous solutions, followed by the processing of solutions by precipitation, extraction or sorption methods / Shevchenko VB, Sudarikov BN Uranium-M Technology Gosatomizdat. - 1961. - p. 301-302. /. Although these processes are widely used in practice, they have significant drawbacks consisting in the formation of toxic water wastes, a large number of redistribution operations and the depreciation of fluorine contained in uranium hexafluoride and hydrogen fluoride.
Известен способ переработки смеси UF6 - HF путем совместной конденсации компонентов при температуре ниже 233K с последующим разделением жидкой фазы фтористого водорода и твердой фазы гексафторида урана /Method and apparaturs for the physical separation of the components of a bynary mixture. Н. -1961.-с.301-302./.A known method of processing a mixture of UF 6 - HF by joint condensation of components at a temperature below 233 K, followed by separation of the liquid phase of hydrogen fluoride and the solid phase of uranium hexafluoride / Method and apparaturs for the physical separation of the components of a bynary mixture. U.S. Patent No. 3,425,812, 1969 /. However, it is impossible to completely remove hydrogen fluoride from uranium hexafluoride, since a certain amount of it remains sorbed on solid uranium hexafluoride. In addition, the separated hydrogen fluoride is contaminated with uranium hexafluoride up to several tenths of a percent, and this requires the hydrometallurgical end of the technological chain, as in the method / Shevchenko VB, Sudarikov BN Uranium technology. - M .: Gosatomizdat. -1961.-p. 301-302. /.
A known method of processing a mixture of UF 6 - HF, based on the difference in boiling points of hydrogen fluoride and sublimation of uranium hexafluoride / Galkin N.P., Mayorov A.A. Chemistry and technology of fluoride compounds of uranium. - M.: Gosatomizdat. - 1961. - p. 167./. The method consists in vacuum distillation of predominantly hydrogen fluoride at a temperature of 213 - 193K. However, a sufficiently large amount of uranium hexafluoride volatilizes with hydrogen fluoride due to the formation of uranium hexafluoride and hydrogen fluoride volatile azeotrope containing about 20 wt.% HF and 80 wt.% UF 6 , and this also requires additional processing operations sublimates. In addition, due to low temperatures and low pressures, the method is extremely inefficient.
NaOH+[HN-(C4F9)3]+F- ---> NaF + H2O +N - (C4F9)3 (2)
A known method for the selective separation of hydrogen fluoride from a mixture with uranium hexafluoride as a result of the reaction of HF with perfluorinated amines / Verfahren zum Abtrennen von Fluorwasserstoft aus einem Uranhexaafluorid - Fluorwasserstoff Gemisch. German patent N 2231893.-1979 /
The regeneration of the formed complex is carried out by treatment with alkali
NaOH + [HN- (C 4 F 9 ) 3 ] + F - ---> NaF + H 2 O + N - (C 4 F 9 ) 3 (2)
The disadvantages of the method are the presence of liquid and solid wastes, the relative high cost of the reagents and the depreciation of the fluorine ion contained in hydrogen fluoride.
A known method of processing mixtures of uranium hexafluoride with hydrogen fluoride by sorption on sodium fluoride followed by desorption / Galkin N.P., Zaitsev V.A., Seregin MB Capturing and processing fluorine-containing gases. -M. : Atomizdat. - 1975. - 239 p. /, (Prototype). The disadvantage of this method is the inability to isolate the components of the mixture directly in the form of their individual chemical compounds in which they are contained in the processed mixture.
The purpose of the invention is to create a method for processing a mixture of uranium hexafluoride with hydrogen fluoride, which allows to isolate the components of the mixture directly in the form of their individual chemical compounds.
This goal is achieved by the fact that in the method of processing a mixture of uranium hexafluoride with hydrogen fluoride, by sorption on sodium fluoride followed by desorption, desorption is carried out in two stages, the first of which is carried out at a temperature of 423 - 463K and an absolute pressure of 0.7 - 4, 0 kPa, and the second at a temperature of 573 - 673K and an absolute pressure of 10-100 kPa, while the desorbate from the first stage is sent to sorption of hydrogen fluoride on lithium fluoride at a temperature of 263 -293K and a contact time of at least 20 s, after which unsorbed gases are returnedand sodium fluoride sorption on together with the starting mixture and the adsorbed lithium fluoride, hydrogen fluoride is desorbed at a temperature of 423 - 523K.
Figure 1 shows the technological block diagram of the proposed method.
In FIG. Figure 2 shows the dependence of the differential degree of desorption of hydrogen fluoride and uranium hexafluoride (α,%) on the temperature of the sorbent (T, K).
In FIG. Figure 3 shows the dependence of the relative desorption rate of hydrogen fluoride and uranium hexafluoride (δ,% per min) on the temperature of the sorbent (T, K).
The method is as follows. A mixture of gaseous uranium hexafluoride and hydrogen fluoride is sorbed on sodium fluoride at a temperature of 363-383K. Then, raising the temperature of the sorbent to 423-463K and evacuating the space above it to a residual absolute pressure of 0.7 - 4.0 kPa, the first stage of desorption is carried out, during which hydrogen fluoride is mainly desorbed. The first stage of desorption is conducted until complete removal of hydrogen fluoride from the sorbent. In this case, the desorbate is contaminated with an admixture of uranium hexafluoride. The desorbate of the first stage is directed to the selective sorption of hydrogen fluoride from it on lithium fluoride, the temperature of which is maintained in the range of 263 - 293 K, and the contact time is at least 20 s. The gases remaining after contact with lithium fluoride containing uranium hexafluoride and that part of hydrogen fluoride that were not adsorbed by lithium fluoride are returned to the process head for joint sorption with the initial mixture of uranium hexafluoride with hydrogen fluoride. Then, increasing the temperature of sodium fluoride to 573–673 K, at an absolute pressure of 10–100 kPa, uranium hexafluoride is desorbed. Uranium hexafluoride does not contain impurities of hydrogen fluoride. Raising the temperature of lithium fluoride to 423 - 523K, hydrogen fluoride is desorbed. Hydrogen fluoride does not contain impurities of uranium hexafluoride. These products are collected by condensation and issued as commercial products obtained as a result of the implementation of the proposed method.
Each of the main operations that make up the technological scheme for the implementation of the proposed method, we have studied experimentally in an industrial environment. The results can be summarized by the following conclusions.
The selectivity of separation of the UF 6 - HF mixture at the first stage of desorption from sodium fluoride is determined not only and not so much by the thermodynamic prerequisites of the behavior of these substances absorbed by sodium fluoride, but to a greater extent by the kinetic characteristics of the process, i.e. the difference in desorption rates. So, the limiting stage of the rate of desorption of hydrogen fluoride from sodium fluoride granules is the rate of the chemical decomposition of the NaF • HF complex salt, which is a function of the process temperature, HF concentration in the sorbent, pressure over the sorbent and the geometric parameter of the sorption column.
3.In contrast to hydrogen fluoride, the desorption of uranium hexafluoride from sodium fluoride granules has a different kinetic picture. The difference is that the desorption of UF 6 is limited by significantly slower diffusion of uranium hexafluoride from sorbent micropores than the purely chemical decomposition of
The experiments were performed in the pressure range of 0.7-4.0 kPa. The experiments showed that a decrease in the process pressure to below 0.7 kPa reduces the process speed to technologically unacceptably small values, and an increase in excess of 4.0 kPa reduces the selectivity of HF desorption in relation to UF 6 . It can be seen from the form of the curves that the optimum temperature conditions ensuring the selectivity of the separation of the UF 6 - HF mixture during the selective desorption of HF are the temperature range 423 - 463K. Under these conditions, a high speed and almost 100% degree of desorption of hydrogen fluoride in the first stage of desorption are achieved, which ensures high purity of uranium hexafluoride desorbed in the second stage at a temperature of 573-673 K.
1. At the same time, it can be seen that part of the uranium hexafluoride was also desorbed with hydrogen fluoride in the first stage. The composition of the desorbates of the first and second stages of desorption from sodium fluoride, confirming these findings, are shown in table 1.
In accordance with the proposed method, the desorbate of the first stage of desorption from sodium fluoride was sent to extract hydrogen fluoride from it by selective sorption on lithium fluoride at a temperature of 263 - 293 K and a contact time of at least 20 s. Unsorbed lithium fluoride gases were returned to the process head for processing together with the initial mixture. This looping of the gas stream avoids the formation of gaseous waste and increase the extraction of the components of the mixture in commercial products obtained by the proposed method.
After approximately 80% of the theoretical saturation of lithium fluoride with hydrogen fluoride (determined by calculation, by the amount of the mixture passed), hydrogen fluoride was desorbed at a temperature of 423–523 K. The X-ray analysis of this desorbate showed an absolute absence in the spectrum of the most intense absorption band of uranium hexafluoride at 625 cm -1 , i.e. the product of desorption was pure hydrogen fluoride. The implementation of the desorption of hydrogen fluoride made it possible to obtain commercial products - pure hydrogen fluoride, remove hydrogen fluoride from the technological scheme and regenerate the sorbent for reuse.
For the technical and economic characteristics of the proposed method, Table 2 shows the material flow balance, compiled according to the results of its production verification in the technology for producing highly enriched uranium hexafluoride.
From the results shown in table 2, you can evaluate the main technical and economic indicators of the method:
- The direct yield of uranium hexafluoride in the commercial product is 99.37%. Taking into account recycling, the yield of UF 6 in a marketable product is close to 100% with spectral purity of hydrogen fluoride impurity.
- The direct yield of hydrogen fluoride in the commercial product is 99.35%. Taking into account recycling, the yield of HF in the marketable product is close to 100% with spectral purity due to the impurity of uranium hexafluoride.
0,65%. - The amount of uranium hexafluoride in recycling within the scheme is 0.63% of the amount received for processing. For hydrogen fluoride, this value is 0.65%.
Thus, the implementation of the proposed method allows us to solve the problem of processing mixtures of uranium hexafluoride with hydrogen fluoride without resorting to low-tech and expensive hydrometallurgical operations, and to isolate the components of the mixture as commercial products in the form of individual, highly pure substances.
