Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of rocket technology, more specifically to the design of liquid rocket engines (LRE).
In most existing LPREs, the turbine drive of the pumps of the working components (oxidizer and fuel) is carried out due to the actuation of the gas energy obtained in a special unit - a gas generator (GG). GH works on the main components, but in the mode of incomplete combustion (the so-called reducing GH) or an excess of oxidizing agent (oxidative GH) to provide a temperature acceptable for the power turbine (usually it is 500 ... 700 o C). The spent turbogas is then either thrown out through a special exhaust pipe (in schemes conventionally called "open", simpler and prevailing at the beginning of the development of the liquid propellant rocket engine), or it enters the main combustion chamber, where it participates in the further working process (such "closed" circuits are more economical and are the basis of modern rocket engines).
To date, the most advanced liquid propellant rocket engines are carried out according to a "closed" scheme. The pressure level in the combustion chamber mastered today is high - up to 250 kgf / cm 2 , which leads to a large degree of expansion of the gas in the nozzle of the chamber and a high specific impulse. However, the price of this is the need to obtain extremely high pressures (up to 500 kgf / cm 2 ) at the outlet of the pumps of the turbopump unit (TNA) and create complex heat-stressed units of the gas generator and turbine (especially because of the danger of spontaneous combustion of the most stressed structural elements in oxidative turbogas).
The founder of the Soviet liquid propellant rocket engine V.P. Glushko proposed for the most common oxygen-kerosene engines in practice (V.P. Glushko. Fundamentals of the design of jet engines using liquid fuel, 1 part, Course of lectures delivered in 1947-1948, Edition MVTU named after Bauman, p. 165) the idea of driving a TNA turbine with a turbogas from a separate circulation circuit with an independent working fluid. The latter is heated and gasified directly in the cooling chamber of the chamber and, after operation, condenses due to heat removal by the main components of the engine (mainly liquid oxygen), and then is returned by the pump to the cooling jacket, which ensures the thermodynamic closure of the duty cycle, essentially a variant of the well-known vapor-liquid cycle Rankine ("... A more radical and elegant solution to the problem of increasing engine efficiency when using a closed turbine power system, providing at the same time cooling the engine, in this case there is no material flow, and heat is removed from the combustion chamber for evaporation and heating of the working fluid (coolant), and this heat is almost completely returned to the combustion chamber together with the fuel, partially in the form energy communicated to the fuel components by the pumps, partly in the form of heat transferred to the fuel components in the capacitors ... ").
В. П. V.P. Glushko showed that the proposed principle is very economical and allows you to radically increase the working pressure in the combustion chamber, thereby ensuring maximum specific thrust.
The idea of using chamber heat directly to produce turbogas is practically realized in the RL-10 oxygen-gas "gasless" engine developed in the USA in the 60s (its description is given, for example, in the book: G. Gakhun (ed.). Design and engineering of liquid rocket engines, M., Mechanical Engineering, 1989, p. 98). In this engine, the entire hydrogen flow after leaving the TNA pump is passed through the jacket, properly cooling the chamber, where it is gasified and heated to a temperature that provides the required power to the TNA power turbine, and from the turbine exit it enters the combustion chamber.
The advantage of this scheme is its comparative simplicity, primarily determined by the absence of a gas generator. However, in this case, due to the high back pressure behind the turbine under conditions of limited heat-generating ability of the chamber, the achievable pressure level in the chamber is low and the applicability of the circuit is limited only by hydrogen fuel.
The more universal gas-free generator principle of constructing a liquid-propellant rocket engine circuit by V.P. Glushko on the basis of a separate closed loop of the TNA drive is specified in U.S. Patent 1967 N 3516254 (class F 02 K 9/02). This technical decision is taken as a prototype of the invention.
In this case, again using an oxygen-hydrogen example, a self-contained closed ammonia circuit for cooling the chamber and driving a power turbine with a heat exchanger-condenser was introduced on the bypass of the pressure branch of the hydrogen line and its own circulation pump. Engine regulation is provided by changing the flow rate through the hydrogen bypass as well as bypassing the turbine (engine start-up issues are not addressed).
Specific calculations show that the practical implementation of the described scheme is complicated by the difficulties of energy linking of the pump and turbine parts of the ТНА, the danger of freezing condensate in the refrigerator, and the lack of elaboration of regulatory issues.
The problem solved by the invention is the expansion of the functionality of a gas-free LPRE circuit with a closed or semi-closed loop of a turbine pump turbine drive.
- повышение агрегатов по теплонапряженности и прочностным нагрузкам;
The technical result that can be obtained:
- increase in units of heat stress and strength loads;
- reducing the cost of rocket engines through the use of less expensive materials.

In addition, fuel and oxidizer pumps and a closed loop circulation pump are installed on the turbine shaft, while ammonia is used as the working fluid of the turbine.
Moreover, the heat exchanger-condenser is installed on the output line of the oxidizer pump after the place of entry of the coolant from the outlet of the heat exchanger-heater, and a flow regulator is installed at the outlet of the heat exchanger-condenser.
In addition, a bypass line is connected between the output and input of the closed loop circulation pump, which contains a start pump and a check valve, and a check valve is also installed in the output line of the circulation pump, in front of the bypass connection. The start-up pump drive is self-contained, connected to the pump through a detachable sleeve, and is located on the ground rocket launcher.
The essence of the invention also lies in the fact that in a LRE on cryogenic fuel components, including a chamber with a mixing head and a regenerative cooling path, a turbopump assembly with oxidizer and fuel pumps, the output lines of which are connected to the chamber mixing head, and a turbine pump turbine drive circuit, in which includes a circulation pump connected in series with each other, a regenerative cooling path of the chamber, a turbine, a heat exchanger-condenser installed in the output master one of the pumps, and which is connected through the closing section of the circuit to the inlet of the circulation pump, a heat exchanger-heater is installed in the pipeline connecting the outlet of the regenerative cooling path of the chamber and the inlet of the turbine, the heat carrier of which is the gas received in the gas generator fed from the outlet lines of the fuel pumps and an oxidizer, moreover, the heat exchanger-condenser is installed on the output line of the cryogenic liquid oxygen pump, and the fuel pump enters the trailing section of the circuit, I at the same time use a circulation pump, at the output of which a controlled flow divider is installed, one of the outputs of which is connected to the mixing head of the chamber, and the other to the regenerative cooling path of the chamber, and the fuel supply line of the gas generator contains a flow regulator, and between the output of the fuel pump and the inlet a regenerative cooling chamber of the chamber is equipped with a bypass line containing a starting pump, and at the output of a controlled flow divider, towards the regenerative cooling path of the chamber, check valve installed.
In addition, in the circuit of the working fluid of the turbine, in the line between the outlet from the heat exchanger-condenser and the inlet to the fuel pump, a flow regulator and a check valve are installed in series.
In this case, the working fluid of the turbine of the turbopump unit is fuel, taken from the output line of the fuel pump and supplied to the regenerative cooling path of the chamber.
The start-up pump is driven by a stand-alone drive, which is connected to the specified pump through a detachable sleeve.
The invention is described by the example of its specific implementation with reference to the drawings.
In FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of a closed-circuit liquid propellant rocket engine turbine of a turbopump assembly.
In FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram of a liquid-propellant rocket engine with a semi-closed loop of a turbine pump turbine drive.
10. The liquid propellant rocket engine (Fig. 1) contains a chamber 1 with a mixing head 2 and a regenerative cooling path 3, a turbopump unit 4 with oxidizer 5 and fuel 6 pumps. The output lines 7 and 8 of the oxidizer 5 and fuel 6 pumps are connected to the mixing head 2. Into the LPRE circuit includes a closed circuit 9 of the drive of the turbine 10 of the turbopump assembly 4. The specified circuit includes a circulation pump 11, a check valve 22, a regenerative cooling path 3, a heat exchanger-heater 12, a turbine 10, and a heat exchanger 13 connected in series , a flow regulator 14, the output of which is connected to the inlet to the circulation pump 11. The circulation pump 11 is also mounted on the shaft of the turbine 10. A container 15 with a component is connected to the input line of the circulation pump 11, which feeds the circuit 9 of the turbine drive 10.
The heat carrier of the heat exchanger-heater 12 is an oxidizing gas (gas with an excess of oxidizing agent) obtained in the gas generator 16, fed from the output lines of the fuel pumps 6 and the oxidizer 5. A flow regulator 17 is installed on the gas supply line of the gas generator, and the output of the heat carrier from the heat exchanger-heater 12 is connected to the output line 7 of the oxidizer pump 5. In the same line of the oxidizer pump 5, a throttling device 18 is installed. This device can be of various designs, in particular, it can be b made in the form of a throttle washer. The heat exchanger-condenser 13 is installed on the output line 7 of the oxidizer pump 5 after the place of entry of the coolant from the output of the heat exchanger.
The throttle device 18, installed in the oxidizer pump line 5, is necessary in order to reduce the oxidizer pressure in this line and to ensure the introduction of hot oxidizing gas from the heat exchanger-heater 12. The introduction of the gas generator 16, powered from the main fuel and oxidizer pumps, provides heating turbogas in the heat exchanger-heater 12 and, accordingly, regulation of engine thrust, subsequent gasification of oxygen in the output line of pump 5 to a temperature not lower than 195 K, at which freezing of the exhaust gas from the turbine (e.g. ammonia) will take place.
To start the rocket engine in the engine circuit, a bypass line 19 is connected between the input and output of the circulation pump 11. This line includes a start pump 20 and a check valve 21. In the output line of the circulation pump 11, a check valve 22 is installed in front of the bypass line connection. The drive of the start-up pump 20 is autonomous and connected to it through a detachable sleeve (not shown), which is activated after reaching a certain mode. As a start-up pump drive, for example, a pyro- or pneumatic-driven turbine can be used.
Alternatively, such a start-up pump 23 is installed in the liquid branch of a closed circuit between the heat exchanger-condenser 13 and the circulation pump 11. This start-up pump together with the drive can be placed on the rocket-launcher.
The engine circuit described above with an independent closed loop turbine drive is preferred for a liquid oxygen-kerosene pair. In this case, such working fluids as, for example, water, methane, ammonia can be used to fill the working circuit. Although the disadvantage of water is the danger of its freezing in the heat exchanger-condenser, and the methane injection capacity is relatively high due to its low density. Thus, in terms of the combination of properties, ammonia is the most practical.
- достаточностью тепловой энергии, получаемой в тракте регенеративного охлаждения 3 камеры 1 для привода турбины 10 (с учетом мощности циркуляционного насоса 11);
- исключением опасности замерзания отработанного турбогаза в теплообменнике-конденсаторе 13;
The effectiveness of this scheme is determined by the ability to simultaneously fulfill several conditions:
- the sufficiency of thermal energy received in the regenerative cooling path 3 of the chamber 1 for driving the turbine 10 (taking into account the power of the circulation pump 11);
- eliminating the danger of freezing of spent turbogas in the heat exchanger-condenser 13;
- the sufficiency of the thermal energy of the spent turbogas in the condenser for oxygen gasification.
The LRE diagram shown in FIG. 2, can be realized when the fuel, by its thermophysical properties, can not only be used as a chamber cooler, but also converted into a turbogas of the required energy efficiency and subsequently condensed with an oxidizing agent. Such fuel can be methane.
32. The liquid propellant rocket engine (Fig. 2) contains a
34. The LRE circuit includes a
To start the LRE in this engine circuit, a
Starting the engine, filled according to the schemes (Figs. 1 and 2), begins with the opening of the shut-off valves installed in the inlet lines of the fuel pumps 5 (28) and oxidizer 6 (29) (not shown) and the components flow into the chamber 1 (24) by gravity (pressurized tanks) with their subsequent ignition (not shown).
To ensure the circulation of the cooler (a component of the drive circuit of the turbopump assembly), the chambers, both for the purpose of reliable heat dissipation and for obtaining turbogas at the initial stage of engine start-up, for the gradual unwinding of the turbopump unit 4 (27), rotate the starting pump 20 (44) using drive (not shown). A turbine with a pyro- or pneumatic drive (not shown) is used as a start-up pump drive. In this case, the check valve 21 opens, and the check valve 22 closes (Fig. 1). The
2). During this time of engine operation, the turbine gradually unwinds. As the revolutions (pressure) increase behind the oxidizer and fuel pumps, the start-up pump 20 (44) is turned off, the check valves 21 are closed and the check valves 22 (35) open. The starter pump is switched off via a detachable coupling. In this case, the drive circuit of the turbine TNA begins to work from the circulation pump 11 (Fig. 1) and the fuel pump 29 (Fig. 2).
Regulation of engine thrust in nominal mode is ensured by fuel consumption control using the component ratio regulator 16 (42) - a change in turbogas temperature.
By controlling the flow regulator 14 (38) in the liquid line of the TNA turbine drive circuit, it is also possible to regulate engine thrust.
Industrial applicability
