Abstract
Description
The invention relates to nanotechnology equipment, and more specifically to devices that provide for observation, measurement and modification of the surface of objects in tunnel and atomic-force modes.
Known multi-probe cantilever for scanning probe microscope (SPM), which is the base to which are attached three identical rectangular beams, which are a flexible lining of the capacitor, at the far end of which there are needles [1]. Beams are placed above the rigid bases, which serve as the second lining of the capacitor. When bending the beams that occurs when scanning the test sample, the change in capacitance between the beam and the rigid base is measured.
The disadvantage of this device is parasitic sensitivity to environmental parameters (change in its dielectric constant). In addition, a parasitic effect of the capacitance between two adjacent beams may occur, which imposes a limitation on reducing the distance between them.
These drawbacks are absent in the well-known multi-probe cantilever for SPM containing a base, to which two U-shaped beams are attached, at the far end of which there are needles [2]. Piezoresistors are located on both arms of the beams to measure their bending when scanning the surface under study.
The need to use U-shaped beams limits the possibility of reducing the distance between the cantilever needles. In addition, the use of piezoresistors as a sensitive element limits the maximum dynamic range to 10,000 and the significant temperature dependence of the output signal.
The task of the invention is the creation of a multi-probe cantilever for a scanning probe microscope.
п.). The technical result of the invention is to reduce the distance between adjacent cantilever scanning needles, increase the dynamic range of measurements and reduce sensitivity to spurious effects (temperature, change in the electrical properties of the medium, etc.).
This is achieved by the fact that the cantilever has several beams with different natural resonant frequencies, and each beam has its own oscillation frequency, different from all others.
The proposed cantilever contains a base (1) with beams fixed on it (2) of arbitrary shape, on the far end of which there are needles (3), the ends of the needles lying in the same plane, and each beam has its own vibration frequency, different from all others .
In particular, for the implementation of beams with different frequencies of natural vibrations, the cantilever can have beams that differ in length, thickness, width, number and location of thinning (4) of the beam.
1). If the beams have different lengths, it is necessary to ensure the location of the tip of the needles in one plane (the plane of the sample). For this, the beams are attached to the base at different levels (Fig. 1).
3). As a rule, beams are mounted on one (Fig. 1 and 2) or on two opposite ends of the base. To accommodate the largest number of needles with a minimum distance between them, it is possible to place beams (2) on the base (1) having an opening (5) so that the ends of the beams on which the needles (3) are located converge at one point (Fig. 3 )
In FIG. 1 shows a multi-probe cantilever for a scanning probe microscope with beams of various lengths.
In FIG. 2 shows a multi-probe cantilever for a scanning probe microscope with beams having a thinning (4) at different distances from the needle.
(1). In FIG. 3 shows a multi-probe cantilever with the placement of beams (2) in the hole of the base (1).
The device operates as follows. When scanning the test surface, we excite the natural vibrations of each of the beams; when the cantilever needles move along the relief of the test surface, the oscillation parameters change (frequency, amplitude, phase). The change in these characteristics is measured by a scanning probe microscope. To do this, the frequency belonging to each of the beams is selected in the output signal, and the change in the vibration parameters of each of them is determined. For example, during optical reading of the signal in the SPM, the output signal comes from the photodiode. It contains all frequencies belonging to each of the cantilever beams. After selecting their frequencies, it is possible to detect a signal belonging to each of the beams, and to observe the image of the investigated surface obtained from each beam.
