Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of metallurgy, in particular to methods for producing pitch-binder used for the preparation of graphite products and anode paste, and may find application in the coke industry.
Medium-temperature coal tar pitch is used mainly as a binder in the production of graphite products and anode masses. Consumer requirements for pitch-binder reflects the current standard for pitch, presented in table 1 [1]. The currently existing industry method for producing medium-temperature coal tar pitch by a single evaporation of coal tar preheated in a tubular furnace to 380 - 420 o C, practically does not allow to control the content of α - and α 1 - fractions in the pitch, therefore, these parameters of the pitch are almost completely determined by the properties of the resin supplied for processing [2]. The properties of the resin, in turn, are determined by a number of difficult to regulate factors: the composition and properties of the charge going to coking, the design of the coking chambers, their technical condition, coking mode, the size and temperature of the underwater space, the conditions for the settling of the resin in mechanical clarifiers [3]. Therefore, due to changes in the quality of the resin, difficulties arise in obtaining a pitch of the required quality, especially in terms of the content of α-fraction. From low-pyrolyzed resins with an α-fraction content of less than 8 - 9%, it is practically impossible to obtain pitch with an α-fraction content of more than 24% and a volatiles yield of not more than 63% using the existing technology. These two indicators are closely related to the coke-forming properties of the pitch and the deviation of their values from the norms of the standard degrades the quality of the pitch as a binder in the preparation of electrode products.
Therefore, it is urgent to develop methods for additional processing of medium-temperature pitch, which can increase the content of α-fraction and reduce the yield of volatile substances without increasing the softening temperature of the pitch and increase the content of α 1 -fraction.
An increase in the softening temperature of the pitch impairs the plastic properties of the coke pitch compositions and makes it difficult to carry out the mixing step in the electrode production. Formed due to liquid-phase densification reactions occurring during heat treatment of the pitch, α 1 -fraction negatively affects the quality of electrode products [4- Construction materials based on carbon. Thematic industry collection of labor, M., Metallurgy, 1975, N 10, 117 - 122. Quality requirements for pitch-binder for the electrode and aluminum industries.
Known methods for additional processing of coal tar pitch in order to improve its properties as a pitch-binder.
According to the method [5], the medium temperature pitch is diluted with an anthracene fraction and the mixture is thermally treated for 5-7 hours at 360-380 ° C, continuously pumping it through a tube furnace. The content of α - fraction in the pitch increases to 30 - 35%; the softening temperature of the obtained pitch is 80 - 104 o C; the content of α 1 fraction is 15%. [5- SU, Copyright Certificate, 166300, C 10 B 55/00 1964.]
The essential features of the invention [5], common with the invention, are the use of a mixture of pitch and anthracene fraction as a feedstock and heat treatment of the mixture.
According to the method [6], resin fractions boiling at 210 - 230 o C or 230 - 290 o C (preferably: 95% boiling in the range of 225 - 310 o C) in the ratio 9: 1 - 1: 1 are added to the medium-temperature pitch (preferably 2: 1) and treated at 380 - 390 o C for 6 - 8 hours (6 - GB, Patent, 1249569, class C 5 E, 1971) Moreover, from medium-temperature pitch with a softening temperature of 60 o C, the content of α - fractions of 21% and the content of α 1 - fractions of 6% receive pitches with a softening temperature of 93 - 104 o C; the content of α - fraction 30 - 36%; the content of α 1 - fraction of 15%. The essential features of the invention [6], common with the features of the present invention, are the use of a mixture of pitch and absorption fraction as a feedstock and heat treatment of the mixture.
According to the methods of [5, 6], a binder is obtained from medium-temperature pitch that does not meet the requirements for the quality of the pitch-binder in terms of the content of α 1 fraction and softening temperature.
(360 - 390oC).In addition, both methods [5, 6] are long (6 - 8 hours), high heat treatment temperatures (360 - 390 o C) are used.
Высококипящий продукт получают путем термической обработки антраценовой фракции в присутствии воздуха при 250 - 300oC в течение 10 - 13 ч; расход воздуха составляет 8 - 10 л/кг • ч [7 - SU, Авторское свидетельство, 679615, C 10 C 3/04, 1979).The closest technical solution adopted for the prototype is the method [7], which allows to obtain a binder containing α - fraction of 32.5% and α 1 fraction - 6 - 7%. According to this method, a high-boiling product containing up to 20-24% α-fractions is added to the medium-temperature pitch, and the heat treatment of the mixture of pitch with this product is carried out in the presence of air at 360 - 380 ° C, the ratio of pitch: high-boiling product is from 2: 1 to 9 : one; air consumption 7 - 9 l / kg • h, duration 1.5 - 2 hours. A high-boiling product is obtained by heat treatment of the anthracene fraction in the presence of air at 250 - 300 o C for 10 - 13 hours; air consumption is 8 - 10 l / kg • h [7 - SU, Copyright certificate, 679615, C 10 C 3/04, 1979).
В результате из среднетемпературного пека с температурой размягчения 60oC, содержанием α - и α1 - фракций соответственно 20,6 и 2,0% и термообработанной антраценовой фракции получают пек с температурой размягчения 88oC; содержанием α - фракции - 32,5% и α1- фракции - 6,0%.As a result, from a medium-temperature pitch with a softening temperature of 60 ° C., a content of α and α 1 fractions of 20.6 and 2.0%, respectively, and a heat-treated anthracene fraction, a pitch with a softening temperature of 88 ° C. is obtained; the content of α - fraction - 32.5% and α 1 - fraction - 6.0%.
The essential features of this invention that are common with the invention are the use of medium-temperature pitch and anthracene fraction as feedstock, and air treatment of the feedstock at elevated temperature.
The disadvantage of this method (prototype) is:
1. The formation in the process of obtaining a binder of a significant amount of α 1 fraction due to an increase in the rate of its formation, which leads to the need to use special varieties of medium temperature pitch containing not more than 2% α 1 fraction.
76oC.2. The binder obtained by this method has a softening temperature equal to 88 o C, while according to the standard, it should not exceed 76 o C.
The duration and complexity of the process. The duration of the process is due to the low rate of formation of the α - fraction during the processing of the anthracene fraction (about 10 - 13 hours).
The objective of the invention is to reduce the rate of formation of α 1 - fraction, decrease the softening temperature of the pitch, reduce the duration of the process by increasing the rate of formation of α - fraction.
280 - 350oC.The problem was solved due to the fact that in the method of producing pitch-binder, including the processing of coal tar and pitch fractions with air at an elevated temperature, the coal tar fraction and pitch are mixed in the ratio of pitch: fraction (9.9: 0.1) before air treatment - (9.1: 0.9) and the mixture is treated with air at a temperature of 280 - 350 o C.
The authors found that when the pitch is mixed with an anthracene and / or absorption fraction and then treated with air at an elevated temperature, the rate of formation of the α fraction increases and the rate of formation of the α 1 fraction and the softening temperature of the pitch decrease.
In FIG. Figure 1 presents data on the growth of the α - fraction in the initial pitch (curve 1), a mixture of pitch and absorption fraction (curve 2), a mixture of pitch and anthracene fraction (curve 3) at different processing temperatures and processing times of 1 hour. The increase in α - fraction (Δα) is equal to the difference between the content of α - fraction in the pitch after and before heat treatment.
Processing the mixture at a temperature below 280 o C is impractical, because the rate of formation of the α-fraction is low, and at a temperature above 350 o C the softening temperature and the content of the α 1 fraction begin to increase at a noticeable rate.
The authors found that when the ratio of pitch and fraction of coal tar equal to (9.9: 0.1) - (9.1: 0.9) provides a minimum rate of formation of α 1 fractions and a decrease in the softening temperature of the resulting pitch at a maximum rate of formation α - fractions.
When using less than 0.1 parts of the absorption and / or anthracene fraction for 9.9 parts of pitch (i.e., less than 1% of the fraction in the mixture of fraction and pitch), the softening temperature of the resulting pitch increases. With an increase in the fraction content of more than 0.9 parts by 9.1 parts of pitch (i.e. more than 9%), the content of the α-fraction in the resulting product decreases.
The inventive method is illustrated by examples.
1. Example 1

2 (пример 1).0.42 kg of absorption fraction is added to 8.0 kg of medium temperature pitch. The ratio of the pitch fraction is 9.5: 0.5. The resulting mixture is melted, subjected to heat treatment at a temperature of 320 o C for 1.5 hours with a supply of air in an amount of 10 l / kg • h. In this case, a pitch with the characteristics shown in table. 2 (example 1).

Table 3 shows the test results of the initial pitch and pitch obtained in accordance with the claimed technical solution (table 2, example 1), in the manufacture of graphite electrodes.
From the above data it is seen that on the basis of the pitch obtained by the claimed technical solution, graphitized electrodes with properties superior to those based on conventional pitch are obtained.
Using the claimed invention will increase the productivity of the method of obtaining pitch-binder by reducing the total processing time by 5-7 times, the implementation of the method in one stage, and also improve the quality of pitch-binder by obtaining pitch with the content of α-fraction at the upper limit of the requirements of the current standard (27 - 33%) without a significant increase in the softening temperature of the pitch and the content of α 1 fraction in it.
