Abstract
1. A method of cleaning a substrate, comprising contacting the substrate in a cleaning cycle with an aqueous cleaning solution containing an aqueous diluent and a detergent composition, the detergent composition containing a glycolic and / or lactic acid oligomer with an average degree of polymerization of 1.8 to 6, wherein the glycolic and / or lactic acid oligomer provides controlled release of glycolic and / or lactic acid in the cleaning solution, creating an acidic pH gradient in the cleaning solution during the cleaning cycle. 2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising contacting the substrate in the rinse cycle with a water rinse, and the water rinse essentially does not contain a specially added rinse agent or fabric softener. The method according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the oligomer of glycolic and / or lactic acid is glycolide and / or lactide. The method according to claim 1, wherein the detergent composition is a single-phase composition containing 5-70 wt.% Glycolic and / or lactic acid oligomer with respect to the total weight of the detergent composition, preferably 10-60 wt.%, More preferably 20- 50 wt.%. 5. The method according to claim 1, in which the detergent composition is a multiphase composition containing 10-95 wt.% Oligomer of glycolic and / or lactic acid with respect to the mass of the phase containing oligomer of glycolic and / or lactic acid, preferably 25-90 wt. %, more preferably 40-80 wt.%. 6. The method according to claim 1, in which the aqueous cleaning solution contains from about 200 to 5000 parts by weight detergent compositions for every million parts of an aqueous diluent. 7. The method according to claim 1, where
