The utility model relates to the field of friction stir welding. The tool is made of ceramic based on tungsten carbide, including the working part in the form of a pin, which is a sphere whose center is set below the shoulders by 0.2 - 0.7 mm, while the ratio of the diameter of the shoulders to the diameter of the pin is in the range from 1.9 up to 2.3. The obtained geometric relationships allow the manufacture of tools resistant to deformation and destruction from tungsten carbide. In this case, proportional scaling is possible without loss of quality, for example, when it is necessary to manufacture a tool for welding thicker steel sheets.
Description
The utility model relates to the field of friction stir welding.
The prior art tool for friction stir welding (US No. 9656345 B2 of May 23, 2017) made of tungsten carbide with a bonding element in the form of nickel or cobalt, containing on its working
The disadvantage of this tool is that coatings were used to increase the tool's resistance to destruction. Since friction welding with stirring of steels takes place at temperatures from 700 to 1000 ° С, the difference in the thermal expansion coefficients between the coating and the substrate (hard alloy) can lead to cracking or delamination of the coating, moreover, tungsten carbide is capable of deformation at elevated temperatures, which, in case of significant loads, can also lead to cracking and peeling of the coating, which is not capable of deformation. In addition, the manufacture of large tools using this technology can present significant difficulties, since an increase in the area of the tool leads to an increase in the area of the deposited coating, and this, in turn, leads to an increase in the values of the elastic stresses acting in the coating-tool interface, and therefore to a deterioration in adhesion coverings.
The objective of the proposed utility model is the creation of a carbide tool for friction stir welding with the ability to work for a long time without breaking when welding high-strength materials.
2,3. The problem is solved by means of a friction stir welding tool made of ceramic based on tungsten carbide, including a working part in the form of a pin, which is a sphere, the center of which is lower than the shoulders by 0.2 - 0.7 mm, while the ratio of the diameter of the shoulders to the diameter of the pin is in the range from 1.9 to 2.3.
The technical result is the resistance of the tool to destruction and excessive deformations even under critical welding conditions, due to giving the tool from the carbide the proposed geometric shape.

Implementation of a utility model.
На сегодняшний день известно несколько материалов, позволяющих изготавливать инструменты для сварки трением с перемешиванием сталей, это керамики на основе поликристаллического кубического нитрида бора (US 8074865 B2 от 13 декабря 2011) и керамики на основе карбида вольфрама (US 2010/0258612 A1 от 14 октября 2010).Friction welding with stirring of high-strength materials with a high melting point, such as steels, requires materials that significantly exceed them both in strength and in temperature ranges of operation. To date, several materials are known that allow the manufacture of tools for friction welding with stirring of steel, these are ceramics based on polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (US 8074865 B2 dated December 13, 2011) and ceramics based on tungsten carbide (US 2010/0258612 A1 dated October 14, 2010 )
Liu, Y. Hovanski, M.P. Miles, C.D. Sorensen, T.W. Nelson, A review of friction stir welding of steels: tool, material flow, microstructure, and properties, Journal of Materials Science & Technology 2018, v.34, pp. 39-57]. But even in this case, the manufactured tools quickly become unusable by deforming, cracking and collapsing after a few meters, or even several tens of centimeters (depending on the class of steel and the welding mode) of the welded joint [F.C. Liu, Y. Hovanski, M.P. Miles, C.D. Sorensen, T.W. Nelson, A review of friction stir welding of steels: tool, material flow, microstructure, and properties, Journal of Materials Science & Technology 2018, v. 34, pp. 39-57]. Therefore, the task of extending the life of carbide tools is relevant and needs to be addressed.
0,6C-18Mn-0.1N.In our cases, a tungsten carbide rod with a content of 10% cobalt, a grain size of 0.7 μm and a hardness of 91 HRA was selected as a carbide with a hardness of 91 HRA, from which by cutting a profile with multiple turns, on a submersible, electroerosive, wire Sodick's AQ300L cutting machine produced a series of tool prototypes with a shoulder diameter of 12.3 and various pin shapes with a height of 1.5 mm and a base diameter of 4 mm, namely a cylinder, cone and sphere (the center of which was set 0.57 mm lower shoulders). High-manganese TWIP steel 0.6C-18Mn-0.1N was used as a material on which the tool resistance to deformation and destruction was tested.
The experiments showed that the cylindrical and conical pins underwent serious deformations and collapsed after 200 mm of the welded joint, while the spherical pin allowed the seams to be welded with a total length of more than 1 meter, without undergoing significant changes. But at the same time, the shoulders were significantly deformed, cracked and destroyed during the welding process.
To optimize the shape of the shoulders, a series of tools were made with shoulders of different diameters and a pin in the form of a sphere. It was experimentally established that when the ratio of the diameters of the shoulders and the pin is greater than 2.3, a significant deformation of the shoulders occurs, and when the ratio is less than 1.9 in the welded joint, a defect channel appears over the entire depth and length of the seam, which could not be eliminated either by an increase in downforce or change of welding modes.
Based on the obtained data on the optimal geometric ratios, a tool was made according to the drawing shown in FIG. 1. Where
To test the universality of the obtained geometric relations, a tool was drawn (Fig. 3), a tool (Fig. 4) was made and tested with a
Consequently, the obtained geometric relationships allow the manufacture of tungsten carbide-resistant tools that are resistant to deformation and destruction. In this case, proportional scaling is possible without loss of quality, for example, when it is necessary to manufacture a tool for welding thicker steel sheets.
