Abstract

A system for automated control of the rights of access of vehicles, drivers and occupants to restricted areas and services uses smart documents and digital certificates in conjunction with automated recognition of a vehicle and its occupants. The collected visual and biometric information is compared against the corresponding reference data stored within vehicle and occupant identification documents, respectively. The matching result as well as the vehicle and occupants' identification data are transmitted to the stationary access control subsystem. The system and method described in the present invention can be used for controlling the access to private roads, parking areas, garages, car lifts, fueling stations, border crossings, security-risk areas or services, where it is necessary to prevent access or exit of unauthorized vehicles and occupants, without stopping authorized users and exposing their private data to unauthorized third parties.
