Abstract

Thionyl-chloride is prepd. from sulphur-chloride, chlorine and sulphur-di:oxide at 150-260 deg. C sulphur chloride is added as a spray, atomised under the pressure of chlorine and sulphur-di:oxide. Reaction products are condensed by cooling and thionyl-chloride is purified. The raw product contains 80-85% thionyl-chloride.
