Abstract

Before use as catalysts the (I) are treated with deionised water at raised temp. under exclusion of O2 and metal ions. Pref. (I) are treated at 100-150 deg.C at pressure such that water is liq. (I) are treated in appts. contg. no Fe in contact with the (I) and the water. Water is freed from dissolved O2 before use. (I) are treated with soln. of at least one 1-4, partic. 3-4, C alcohol in deionised water, partic. soln. contg. 0.5-20, esp. 1-10 vol.% alcohol. Treatment is carried out to cleavage rate of less than 25 mg H2SO4 per litre (I)-hour and less than 7 mg HCl per litre (I)-hour.
