Abstract
The invention relates to a process and to an installation for the dehydration of water-saturated, unheated petroleum gas containing hydrocarbon traces having in the molecule 15 or more carbon atoms. The process according to the invention consists in that initially the unsaturated water-saturated petroleum gas containing traces of heavy hydrocarbons having in the molecule 15 or more carbon atoms are passed through a layer containing a relatively small amount of active carbon which can be 5% of the volume of the adsorbent used, this layer being regenerated with the regeneration of a layer of adsorbent consisting of molecular sites or volcanic tuffs through the circulation of hot gases having a temperature of 160-220 ° C such that heavy hydrocarbons are trained and evacuated for cooling and separation. The installation according to the invention comprises a secondary adsorbent in which an activated charcoal layer is disposed and which is in contact with a main adsorbent, so that before it enters the heated petroleum gas saturated with water containing traces of heavy hydrocarbons having 14 or more carbon atoms in the molecule pass through the active carbon layer which retains the respective hydrocarbons, thus protecting a layer of adsorbent. The petroleum gas to be dried can be introduced directly into the main adsorbent, in which case underneath the adsorbent layer there is a layer of activated carbon.
