Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of soft low-density polyurethane foam which comprises preparing a foam formulation which includes an isocyanate component, a polyol polyester component, water and a catalyst to form methane chains in the foam formulation, and subsequently expansion with formation of the foam and hardening. The process is characterized in the use of at least one part of catalyst to formulate the polyurethane chain in the foam formulation being in the form of a salt of a bicyclic amidine. The preferred salts are the formate, the 2-ethyl hexanoate, the oleate and the phenolate of a bicyclic amidine. This process does away with the need to use chlorofluorohydrocarbons and produces a polyurethane foam which has good compression deformation properties and improved stability.
