Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the isolation of DNA fragments which express during the metabolism of micro-organisms and which are directly or indirectly essential for the production of a secondary metabolite or indirectly essential for the production of a secondary metabolite in that micro-organism, preferably a bacteria or a fungus, which comprises the stages of: a) scrutinizing a DNA bank prepared from the said micro- organism with sensors obtained from mRNA and DNA derived from a first culture of the said micro-organism which produces the said secondary metabolite, b) scrutinizing the said DNA bank with sensors obtained from mRNA or DNA derived from a second culture of the said micro-organism or a mutant thereof which does not produce the said secondary metabolite, and c) identification of the genes in the said first culture which are not substantially transcribed in the said second culture.
