Abstract

Assembly for dispensing fluid includes container and valve through which the fluid is dispensed when a compressing force is applied to the container, the valve preventing backflow of any contaminants into the container during and following dispensing. The valve has an elongated body with inlet and outlet ends spaced apart in the longitudinal direction. An inlet channel connected to the container outlet and extending part way into the body has at least one port extending from its inner end to the outer surface of the body and an outlet channel extending part way into the body in the opposite direction similarly has at least one port extending from its inner end to the outer surface, the two ports being spaced apart. An elastomeric sheath laterally encloses the outside surface of the body and extends over the ports, the sheath being stretched so that it fits tightly around the valve body and normally closes the ports. On applying force to the container, fluid is able to flow from the inlet to the outlet channel via the ports and forced passage between the outer surface of the body and the sheath but flow in the opposite direction is not possible.
