Abstract

The flotation process uses distributed gas and hydraulic effects to distribute the gas bubbles through a fluid with a free surface. A two-ingredient medium is pumped into the fluid. The density of the medium volume-unit of fluid, and its kinetic energy, at the point of injection are respectively between 19 and 41 lbs per cu. ft. and between 0.4 and 10lbs per sq. ft. (The precise range is defined by (Area I) on the graph). After reaching these levels, the force exerted by the pump can be reduced, bringing the figures to between 9.5 and 52 lbs per cu. ft., and 0.09 and 10 lbs per sq. ft. respectively (see area II).
