FUNDAMENTAÇÃO DO INVENTOBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to liquid detergent compositions suitable for cleaning hard surfaces) and which provide insect repellent properties. More particularly, this invention relates to liquid detergent compositions for all purposes, containing an insect repellent material, as well as a process for cleaning and repelling insects from surfaces and articles to which such detergent compositions have been applied.

Mosquito repellents have long been marketed and discoveries have been made of various chemicals that are effective in repelling cockroaches. Typically, these chemicals and repellents have domestic use, being applied or sprayed on surfaces of walls, floors, cabinets, drawers, packaging, containers, mats, upholstery, carpets and in places of potential formation of insect nests, such as inside walls and between floors. However, insect repellents have not generally been used in the past in conjunction with hard surface cleaners in order to effectively clean a domestic hard surface, namely a kitchen wall, stove top, bathroom floor or other similar, while applying a

The incorporation of an insect repellent in a polishing product for domestic floors is known in the art. U.S. Patent 3,018,217 to Bruce discloses wax-based flooring compositions containing dibutyl succinate as an insect repellent. U.S. Patent 3,034,950 to Goodhue et al. discloses a class of insect repellent compounds, dispersed in a wax, which can be applied to surfaces. In U.S. Patent 4,455,308 to Smolanoff, insect repellent formulations containing a liquid carrier, namely liquid aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, are described. An emulsifying agent, for example a nonionic surfactant, can be added to the liquid hydrocarbon to allow the composition to be dispersed in water for application in end use. U.S. Patent 4,822,614 to Rodero discloses an insect repellent ingredient in a hydrocarbon-based solvent, namely isoparaffinic hydrocarbons.

aquosa, é frequentemente vantajoso formular a composição detergente líquida em forma de microemulsão com água, como fase contínua, e óleo ou hidrocarboneto, como fase dispersa.aqueous, it is often advantageous to formulate the liquid detergent composition in the form of a microemulsion with water as a continuous phase and oil or hydrocarbon as a dispersed phase.

In practical tests, on real kitchen floors, counters, bookshelves for drying dishes and walls and in kitchen cabinets and under refrigerators, in apartments infested with cockroaches, a significantly smaller number of cockroaches will be observed on surfaces where, or close to which, the liquid detergent compositions of the invention were applied, in comparison to control surfaces and were found to be less cheap on the backs and shelves of cabinets and pantries whose walls were treated with the liquid detergent compositions of the invention. When floors, walls, counters, sinks, cupboards and walls of a house or apartment are treated with the liquid detergent compositions of the invention, the incidence of cockroach infestation decreases, compared to control apartments where no repellent has been applied.
