Description
t 3t3
The present invention relates to the launching of pipes of plastic material, such as polypropylene or any other, in the installation of submarine emitters, pipelines or for any other similar application. The process presently practiced for the launching of such pipes involves, basically, the amendment of pipe runs approximately twenty meters long on a large construction site on the edge of a place with calm waters, usually the mouth of a river, which allows for the amendment of pipe bids that have a total length of approximately one kilometer.
These one-kilometer sections are then towed by tugs to the open sea, filled with air and with the ends buffed so as to float, to be sunk in the final mounting location.
Said pipe sections are towed provided with counterweights, usually made of concrete, since without them the plastic tubes would not sink. These counterweights are increased after sinking to ensure the stability of the tubes in their final position, against the sea currents.
This prior art process has several drawbacks, which increase the risks of accidents which in turn lead to losses which increase the costs of their use and, consequently, of the work performed.
Os principais desses inconvenientes são o facto de as operações de reboque e afundamento envolverem muitos riscos, uma vez que sõ podem ser efectuadas em condições ideais de mar e de vento, uma vez que a tubulação é extremamente frágil e não 4The main drawbacks are that towing and sinking operations involve many risks, since they can only be carried out under ideal sea and wind conditions, since the piping is extremely fragile and not 4
There are known to many of them that broke up during the towing and got lost in the sea.
Also, after the sinking of each 1-km section, its ends have to be lifted again by a special raft to be mended to other similar sections. This operation, which can only be carried out under ideal conditions of time, also introduces great stresses into the pipeline, endangering its integrity.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a launching process which solves the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art.
This object has been achieved in the present invention by a process comprising the steps of: a) soldering together plastic material bundles at a location near the water; b) securing the tubing obtained by step (a) in a steel cable, the free end of which is fixed to a boat located off said location; c) to tow through the bottom of said body of water, with said boat, said cable having attached thereto said pipe, to the place of its final settlement; and d) sealing said tubing in the bottom by applying thereto counterweights.
Com o processo da invenção consegue-se uma maior rapidez no lançamento das tubulações, uma vez que não é 5With the process of the invention a faster launching speed of the pipes is achieved, since it is not 5
An extensive construction site is necessary since the pipes are being drawn, for example to the sea, as they are welded together, ie there is no need to manufacture said sections of about 1 km of land, and then to tow them to their final location where they would then be mended in other similar sections.
Another advantage of the process of the invention is that time conditions as stable as those which are even indispensable for use in the prior art process are not necessary since the tubes are plastered under water already welded together and secured to a cable of steel, and are therefore not subject to undesirable undue stress arising from sea surface conditions.
Finalmente, evita-se com o processo da invenção a operação de re-içamento da tubulação para emendas em pleno alto mar, operação essa que, conforme já dito, causa grandes esforços indesejáveis na tubulação. A presente invenção será agora descrita fazendo-se menção a desenhos esquemáticos anexos ao presente, dos quais: A figura 1 é uma vista superior plana esquemática de uma instalação para levar a cabo as etapas de soldagem e fixação dos tubos ao cabo de aço, de acordo com a presente invenção; A figura 2 é uma vista lateral plana esquemática ilustrando a etapa de reboque de uma tubulação para o mar, de acordo com a presente invenção;Finally, with the process of the invention, the re-hoisting operation of the piping for seams in the open sea is avoided, which operation, as already mentioned, causes great undesirable efforts in the piping. The present invention will now be described with reference to schematic drawings appended hereto, of which: Figure 1 is a schematic top plan view of an installation for carrying out the steps of welding and securing the pipes to the steel cable, according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a schematic side plan view illustrating the step of towing a marine pipeline in accordance with the present invention;
Figures 3a and 3b are schematic cross-sectional views illustrating the positions assumed by the piping on the seabed during the towing step; and Figure 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the tubing after the settling step thereof on the seabed.
With reference to the drawings, it will be seen that according to the method according to the present invention, bids of polypropylene tubes (1) or any other plastic material are soldered on the ground by means of a conventional plastic welding machine (2) , after which the tubes (1), already welded together in the form of a continuous pipe T, are attached to a steel cable (3) provided by a spool (4). Preferably the tubing T is attached to the cable 3 by means of clamps 7. The end of the steel cable 3 is fixed to an appropriate boat 5 which pulls the cable with the tubing T attached thereto by entrainment by the seabed, to the place of its final installation. Figure 3a shows the position taken by the tubing T during the said towing step, while Figure 3b shows how the tubing T can move against the sea currents without undue stress being imposed on it.
7Finally, Figure 4 shows the tubing T lying on the seabed by means of a counterweight (6), which, preferably, but not essentially, is made of a fabric which is injected with cement. 7
After said settling step T by means of the counterweights (6), the clamps (7) and the steel cable (3) can be recovered for future use.
It is to be understood that the invention has been described above on the basis of drawings which represent only schematic illustrations intended to facilitate understanding of the process steps of the invention, which are defined in the appended claims and in no way to be construed as limiting the scope thereof claims.
