In order to secure the plunger against falling out on at the end of the plunger there is a groove in which a circular, split plate with a diameter greater than that of the plunger is inserted. Another known protection is the Seeger rings or a screwed nut on the bottom of the plunger, a round plate with a diameter greater than the plunger diameter. The plunger according to the invention has a plunger guiding-securing element in the form of a disc with at least three grooves with a semicircular cross-section cut in a spiral on the outer perimeter. The guiding-securing element is mounted on the plunger by means of a spring ring. The plunger with the guiding-securing element is slidably mounted in the sleeve. The mating surfaces of the guiding-protection element and the sleeve have a surface smoothness of 0.63 to 2.5 µl. Due to the circumferential grooves, even cylinder liner wear is achieved and an oil film is formed on the slotted surfaces. The guiding-securing element does not cause any additional flow resistance. An additional advantage of the cylinder according to the invention is the greater accuracy in the coaxiality of the action of the plunger with the cylinder sleeve and the protection of the plunger against falling out. The subject of the invention is shown in the cross-sectional view in the drawing. The cylinder consists of a plunger 1, a gland 2 and an outer sleeve 3. The cylinder has a guiding-securing element 4 mounted on the plunger 1 and by means of a spring ring 5. The guiding-securing element 4 is in the form of a disc with spirally cut grooves on the outer circumference with a semi-circular cross-section.
